Speeding remains a key priority for residents across our neighbourhood, particularly in and around Easington. Local concerns have been raised regarding vehicles exceeding speeding limits, especially near schools and Seaside Lane areas.

    Wedi'i roi 01 Gorffennaf 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

To address this, Easington NPT have deployed Community Speedwatch equipment to monitor speeds, raise awareness and encourage safer driving. This initiative plays an important role in improving road safety and promoting a responsible driving culture in our community. During recent Speedwatch activity on Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, over a period of 30 minutes, 57 vehicles passed and non were captured exceeding the speed limit. Hall Walk, Easington Village, over a 30 minute period, 90 vehicles passed through and again no vehicles were found to be speeding at that time.

During the 7 visits to the site I would advise that 18 drivers triggered the safety camera:
0 drivers fell within our Process Level (Court action)
0 driver fell within our Conditional offer level (fine and points)
18 drivers fell within our Speed Awareness Course level

    C151 Stockton Road, Easington Village
During the 5 visits to the site I would advise that 96 drivers triggered the safety cameras:
4 drivers fell within our Process Level (Court action)
18 drivers fell within our Conditional offer level (fine and points)
74 drivers fell within our Speed Awareness Course level
    - A recent review of this site has shown that since we commenced safety camera deployments, speed limit compliance has increased from 29% to 44% and the level of vehicles in our enforcement levels has reduced from 44% to 23% which hopefully goes someway to showing that from a Police perspective we are actively trying to reduce vehicle speeds on this road to address community concerns. The level of vehicles exceeding the speed limit is still too high and therefore we will continue to undertake safety camera deployments for speed limit enforcement as long as the data shows a continue problem. Longer-term solutions have been discussed but subject to funding.
We will continue to monitor and we encourage all road users to be mindful of their speed and help make Easington a safer place for everyone.

18/04/2026 - Officers will continue to visit affected locations as part of our routine patrols of the area.

Mobile Safety Camera Enforcement attention during March, 2026.

    C151 Stockton Road, Easington Village
During the 6 visits to the site, I would advise that 60 drivers triggered the safety cameras:
1 driver fell within our Process Level (Court action)
11 drivers fell within our Conditional offer level (fine and points)
48 drivers fell within our Speed Awareness Course level

    B1283 Hall Walks, Easington Village
During the 4 visits to the site, I would advise that 58 drivers triggered the safety cameras:
1 driver fell within our Process Level (Court action)
2 drivers fell within our Conditional offer level (fine and points)
55 drivers fell within our Speed Awareness Course level

Discussions are ongoing to assess the feasibility of extending existing yellow lines to help alleviate the problem and improve road safety. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the community updated on any developments.

UPDATE - Durham County Council will add this location to their Future Schemes list for consideration.

Further Update - This location is still being closely monitored and has been added to Council Future Schemes List.
