Beachley Walk Children's Centre in Shirehampton was recently identified as a location experiencing anti-social behaviour (ASB). Reports indicated that young people were gaining access to an abandoned building on the site, creating significant safety concerns due to the condition of the property.

Working in partnership with the local council, action has now been taken to secure the site. Steel shutters and protective boarding have been installed to prevent unauthorised access and help ensure the area remains safe and secure. Residents may continue to see officers carrying out regular patrols and checks in the area. These visits form part of our ongoing efforts to prevent further incidents and maintain community safety. We would like to reassure the public that our presence is purely proactive and aimed at ensuring the site remains secure. We would also encourage parents, carers, and guardians to speak with children and young people about the dangers associated with entering abandoned or derelict buildings. Such locations can contain a range of hidden hazards, including asbestos, exposed electrical wiring, unstable structures, broken glass, deep water hazards, and other risks that could result in serious injury. We remain committed to identifying and addressing similar locations across our neighbourhoods. However, we rely heavily on information provided by local residents to help us identify emerging hotspot areas and potential safety concerns. Community intelligence is invaluable in helping us take early action and work with partner agencies to make these locations safer. If you have concerns about anti-social behaviour, vulnerable individuals, or unsafe locations within your area, please report them to us. You can contact us via 101 for non-emergency matters, or 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or a crime in progress. Reports can also be submitted through our online reporting forms, allowing information to be shared with us quickly and efficiently. By working together with residents, local authorities, and partner agencies, we can continue to address anti-social behaviour, improve community safety, and help protect those most at risk.

Officers are continuing to carry out regular high-visibility patrols across Avonmouth and Shirehampton, with a particular focus on locations identified as hotspots for drug-related activity. These patrols allow us to gather intelligence, disrupt criminal behaviour, and provide reassurance to residents who may have concerns about issues affecting their local area. We encourage members of the public to continue reporting any information or concerns they may have. Community intelligence plays a vital role in helping us identify problem areas and enables us to take a targeted approach to tackling drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour. Even what may seem like a small piece of information can help build a clearer picture of ongoing activity. We have recently received reports of discarded drug-related paraphernalia, including small self-seal bags commonly associated with the supply of controlled substances, being found within the Avonmouth Park area. As a result, residents may notice an increased police presence in and around the park at various times throughout the day and evening as we continue our efforts to deter criminal activity and safeguard the community. Our priority is to ensure that Avonmouth and Shirehampton remain safe places to live, work, and visit. Through proactive patrols, partnership working, and the continued support of local residents, we are able to identify issues, target offenders, and take positive action where it is needed most. If you have information about drug-related activity or other concerns within your neighbourhood, please report it via 101, our online reporting services, or 999 in an emergency. Together, we can help create a safer and stronger community for everyone.

  • Blaenoriaeth:

Theft and shoplifting remain a priority for Avonmouth and Shirehampton neighbourhood officers, with incidents continuing to be reported across retail premises, business parks and industrial estates. Offending ranges from opportunistic shoplifting within local stores to more organised criminal activity involving the theft of tools, equipment, vehicles and high-value goods.

These offences can have a significant impact on local businesses and the wider community. For many retailers and business owners, the financial cost of theft extends far beyond the value of the items stolen, with staff often having to deal with the emotional impact, disruption to day-to-day operations and increased security concerns. Persistent offending can also affect how safe people feel when living, working or visiting the area.

Your local neighbourhood policing team continues to take a proactive approach to tackling retail crime and theft. High-visibility patrols are regularly conducted in identified hotspot locations, with officers engaging directly with businesses, gathering intelligence and targeting those responsible for repeat offending. We are committed to using all available powers and resources to disrupt criminal activity and hold offenders accountable.

Strong partnerships with local businesses remain at the heart of this work. We continue to work closely with retailers, security staff, business representatives and partner agencies to share information, identify emerging trends and support effective crime-prevention measures. The quality of CCTV, prompt reporting and the sharing of intelligence are all helping us build stronger cases and achieve positive outcomes.

We would like to thank local businesses and residents who continue to report incidents and provide valuable information. Community intelligence is often instrumental in identifying patterns of offending and enabling officers to focus resources where they are needed most.

Through continued partnership working, targeted patrols and the support of the local community, we remain committed to reducing theft and shoplifting, protecting businesses and helping to ensure Avonmouth and Shirehampton remain safe and welcoming places for everyone.
