Anti-social behaviour involving young people continues to be reported across parts of Avonmouth and Shirehampton, particularly in public spaces such as parks, shopping areas and transport hubs. These locations are often used as gathering points, and while the majority of young people behave responsibly, a minority are engaging in behaviour that causes concern within the community.

Reports include nuisance behaviour, excessive noise, verbal intimidation, and occasional incidents of criminal damage. These issues can have a significant and ongoing impact on the quality of life for local residents, making people feel uncomfortable or unsafe in their own neighbourhoods. Local businesses are also affected, with some reporting disruption to customers and damage to property. We understand the frustration and concern this causes, especially when incidents occur repeatedly in the same locations or during evenings and weekends. Our neighbourhood policing team is working proactively with partners, including local authorities, youth services and schools, to address the root causes of this behaviour. This includes targeted patrols, engagement with young people, and where necessary, enforcement action. We encourage residents and businesses to continue reporting incidents to us, as this helps us build an accurate picture of when and where issues are occurring so we can respond effectively. Together with the community, we are committed to reducing anti-social behaviour and ensuring that Avonmouth and Shirehampton remain safe and welcoming places for everyone.

You can find your local beat managers and PCSOs details below. If you have any information which can help us tackle this problem, or have been affected by this problem, we would be keen to hear from you.

  • Blaenoriaeth:

Drug activity remains a concern in parts of Avonmouth and Shirehampton, with reports of street dealing and the suspected use of residential properties for the storage, preparation and cultivation of controlled drugs. This type of activity often takes place within local neighbourhoods and can be highly visible to residents, causing concern and uncertainty about safety in the area.

The presence of drug-related activity often has a wider impact on the community. It can contribute to increased anti-social behaviour, violence and intimidation, while also being linked to the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, including those who may be coerced into involvement through intimidation, debt or other forms of control. These issues can have a lasting effect on both individuals and the wider community. Your neighbourhood policing team is taking a proactive and intelligence-led approach to tackling this issue. We will continue to increase targeted patrols in identified hotspot areas and will make use of stop and search powers where appropriate to disrupt those involved in drug-related activity. We are also focused on gathering and developing intelligence to build a clearer picture of those responsible and take robust enforcement action. Alongside enforcement, we are working closely with partner agencies, including housing providers and local authorities, to identify and take action against addresses linked to drug activity. This includes pursuing closures and other legal measures where necessary, as well as safeguarding individuals who may be at risk of exploitation. We encourage members of the public to continue reporting any concerns or suspicious activity, as information provided by the community plays a vital role in helping us identify patterns, target our resources effectively and take action against those involved. By working together, we aim to reduce drug-related harm and improve safety for everyone living and working in Avonmouth and Shirehampton.

  • Blaenoriaeth:

Theft and shoplifting continue to be reported across Avonmouth and Shirehampton, particularly within retail areas and industrial estates. Incidents range from opportunistic shoplifting within local stores to more organised offences involving the theft of high-value industrial tools, vehicles and goods. In some cases, these crimes are linked to repeat offenders who target local businesses, causing ongoing concern within the business community.

This type of offending can have a significant impact on livelihoods, especially for small and independent businesses. Financial losses, damage to property and the time spent dealing with incidents can place considerable strain on staff and business owners. There is also a wider impact on the community, as theft and shoplifting can contribute to anti-social behaviour, disorder and a reduced sense of safety in public spaces.

Your neighbourhood policing team is taking a proactive and problem-solving approach to tackling these offences. This includes increased high-visibility patrols in key retail areas, targeted activity to identify and disrupt repeat offenders, and the use of intelligence to build cases against those responsible. Where appropriate, we will pursue enforcement action and utilise available powers to prevent further offending.

We are also working closely with local businesses, business groups and partner agencies to share information, support crime prevention measures and strengthen collective responses to offending. This includes offering advice on security, evidence gathering and reporting processes.

We encourage businesses and members of the public to report incidents and share any information or concerns with us. Community intelligence is essential in helping us identify patterns, respond effectively and bring offenders to justice. By working together, we aim to reduce theft and shoplifting and support a safer environment for businesses, employees and residents across Avonmouth and Shirehampton.
