    City Centre Crime and Anti-Social Behavior: 

    The City Centre continues to be a challenging community to police. However, now that the revised Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) is embedded we are seeing real improvements in crime and ASB across this community.

    Recent intelligence has also allowed us to successfully apply for a budget from the Knife Crime Concentration Fund and this will see the launch of Operation Miden – a proactive operation providing greater numbers of officers into the city across evenings and into the night-time. This work will complement Operation Moralmoor which is the partnership project upscaling our presence across the daytime. It is our ambition to ensure Wakefield City Centre continues to be the safest city in the region.

    Wakefield West (Thornes, Lupset and Cathedral Retail Park) Ward Areas

    Nuisance Electric Bikes and e-Scooters: 

    Lupset has been identified as a Pride in Place location and early engagement with residents has indicated several new ASB hotspot locations as well as concerns regarding the illegal use of electric bikes and e-scooters.

    The Neighbourhood team will be focussed on targeting the new hotspots by introducing evolved patrol plans and enhanced partnership enforcement. With a zero-tolerance approach to ASB, offenders will be identified and at every opportunity and positive action will be taken. We will continue to work with colleagues from the District Off-Road Bike Team as well as Force specialists from the Roads Policing Units to target those riding illegal bikes or in an anti-social manner.

    Offenders should be warned that revised legislation has removed the need to warn and vehicles can be seized and destroyed if we suspect an element of anti-social use.

    Drug Use and Drug Dealing: 

    Members of the community have recently made us aware of emerging locations being used by people involved in drugs use and dealing; this includes from and to occupants of motor vehicles.

    We will utilise the skillsets of colleagues from West Yorkshire Police Proactive Intercept Team (PIT) and of our own NPT officers by introducing enhanced covert proactive patrols in and amongst these hotspot areas.
