Anti-Social Behaviour and Misuse of Drugs Offences - Holme, Colne (Trees Estate) and Dearne Valleys

We are placing a continued focus on tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug misuse within our neighbourhoods due to the ongoing impact these issues have on residents and community wellbeing. Members of the public regularly report concerns relating to ASB and suspected drug-related activity, including intimidation, vandalism, public disturbances, and the visible use or supply of illegal substances.

This behaviour can undermine community confidence, increase fear among residents, damage property, and negatively affect the overall quality of life in local areas. These concerns often highlight recurring issues and locations where harm is most evident.

Public reporting is essential in helping authorities and partner agencies identify problem areas, coordinate timely responses, and take effective action. By working closely with communities and support services, we aim to tackle these behaviours, reduce harm, promote safer neighbourhoods, and provide appropriate support to those impacted.

    Camau a gymerwyd:

The Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team has carried out further intelligence-led, high-visibility patrols on the Trees Estate to deter criminal activity and address anti-social behaviour. These patrols have resulted in a substantial number of stop searches, leading to the seizure of illegal substances and the referral of several young people to appropriate rehabilitative and support services. This proactive work will continue, as further action is required to improve safety and strengthen community cohesion within the area.

Alongside this, multi-agency work has commenced within the Cowlersley estates to build stronger, more constructive relationships between residents, the Police, and partner organisations. This joint approach aims to improve community engagement, develop local intelligence, and support targeted action against those individuals whose behaviour is causing harm across the rural area.

Border Crime, Burglary and Theft of Motor Vehicle

We are prioritising border crime within the Dearne Valley area, with a particular focus on burglary and the theft of motor vehicles. These offences have been an ongoing concern for local residents, who continue to report incidents affecting homes, outbuildings, and vehicles—often in more isolated or less visible locations.

Crimes of this nature can cause significant distress, leaving residents feeling vulnerable and disrupting day-to-day life. Addressing these concerns remains a key priority, as preventing acquisitive crime is vital to maintaining community confidence and safety.

Community intelligence plays a crucial role in enabling the police and partner agencies to identify patterns, respond quickly, and implement effective preventative measures. Continued public reporting supports targeted enforcement, raises awareness, and helps strengthen neighbourhood resilience against criminal activity.

    Wedi'i roi 14 Ebrill 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

To tackle burglary and theft of motor vehicles within the Dearne Valley Ward, we are coordinating resources from both District and Force teams to deliver targeted operations in identified hotspot locations. This enforcement activity is supported by close collaboration with partner agencies to provide crime prevention and awareness campaigns, including educational initiatives and targeted leaflet drops.

We recognise that community safety is a shared responsibility, and local information plays an essential role in preventing crime and disrupting offending. If you have any concerns or information that may assist, please contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team using the link provided at the top of this page.

    Traffic and Road Safety

Speeding continues to be a key concern across the Rural Valleys, particularly within the Holme Valleys, with residents frequently raising issues related to anti-social vehicles, vehicle speed, road safety, and obstructive parking.

Concerns are often reported in residential areas and locations close to schools, parks, and community spaces, where fast-moving traffic poses increased risks to pedestrians and other road users. Excessive speed not only increases the likelihood of collisions but also contributes to noise disturbance and environmental impact, affecting the day-to-day quality of life for residents.

Additional road safety issues may include poor signage, inadequate lighting, and dangerous junction layouts. Parking obstructions—such as vehicles blocking pavements, driveways, or access routes for emergency services—can cause frustration, inconvenience, restrict accessibility, and present particular dangers to vulnerable individuals.

Public reporting remains vital in helping local authorities pinpoint problem areas, build an informed picture of community concerns, and take targeted action to improve oad safety, accessibility, and neighbourhood wellbeing.

    Wedi'i roi 14 Ebrill 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

To tackle ongoing speeding concerns across the Colne, Holme, and Dearne Valleys, we are conducting targeted enforcement within identified hotspots, particularly Birdsedge and High Flats. This activity focuses on addressing the Fatal Five driving offences: excessive speed, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use while driving, failure to wear seatbelts, and careless or dangerous driving.

We continue to work closely with partner agencies to raise awareness, engage with local residents, and gather valuable feedback to support a coordinated and preventative approach to safer driving. Follow Our Kirklees Rural Facebook Page for the latest operation updates.

  • Blaenoriaeth:

Moorland fires caused by antisocial behaviour - Over the summer months we see an increase in moorland fires which are often caused by antisocial behaviour, such as deliberate fire setting, disposable barbecues, campfires, or careless use of flames. These fires pose serious risks to people, the environment and public services. These fires are largely human caused, spread quickly in dry conditions, and cause long lasting damage to peatlands that store vast amounts of carbon, release harmful smoke, destroy wildlife habitats, and threaten nearby communities. They also place significant strain on fire and rescue services and lead to costly incidents

    Wedi'i roi 14 Ebrill 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

We will be carrying out patrols of our moorland areas to reduce the risk of wildfires and those caused by antisocial behaviour or criminality. We will be working closely with WYFRS to ensure better communication between emergency services and take positive action against those putting these areas at risk.
