    Shop thefts in the town centre

    Solihull town centre is the heart of a large community. We understand the impact that business crime has on our partners and their livelihoods, and we pledge to work in conjunction with the Local Authority and Business Improvement District to tackle shop theft in the centre.

    17/05/25 - we continue high visibility patrols and targeted uniform and plain clothes deployments, such as Operation Servator, in our busy town centre streets and shopping areas.

    18/05/25 - we have arrested and charged a female for two incidents of shop theft from John Lewis.

    23/05/25 - as part of #OpSceptre, we have visited several stores and large retailers in the town centre to provide advice on store security, product placement and safety features.

    01/06/25 - we have today arrested an offender who was trying to steal from a town centre store. They are linked to multiple crimes within the town centre and we recovered stolen stock which was hidden on their person.

    02/06/25 - we have organised and held a meeting between police and various stakeholders in Solihull town centre such as council, safeguarding, business and retail representatives. We discuss and share information, themes and trends, and people of interest. This is to join up our work so we maximise our effectiveness.

    12/06/25 - we have patrolled and provided security, safety and crime prevention advice and leaflets in Sears retail park. We have also arrested a repeat offender shoplifter from the town centre.

    18/06/25 - we've attended a meeting between various businesses, authorities and departments within the town centre. We share information regarding known offenders, vulnerable people, crime prevention, safety and security advice, and intelligence.

    20/06/25 - we have met with local stakeholders, security teams and CCTV operators to share information and intelligence regarding shop theft.

    23/06/25 - we have conducted three simultaneous Street Watch patrols along with members of our community. Local residents volunteer to assist us in our patrol and engagement. If you're interested in joining these, please contact us!

    Serious youth violence. In recent months, we have seen disorder involving young people in the town centre.

    It is important to us that people can come and enjoy the shops and facilities in peace, without being fearful of groups causing nuisance or fighting. We will increase our visible presence and patrol in the town centre and in Tudor Grange park to deter this anti-social behaviour and to help the public feel safe.

    15/05/25 - we have issued seven formal warnings with conditions attached to juveniles we know are involved in fights and disorders. If these conditions are breached, they will be arrested.

    17/05/25 - we continue high visibility patrols and targeted uniform and plain clothes deployments, such as Project Servator, in our busy town centre streets and shopping areas.

    19/05/25 - two juvenile males were arrested in the town centre, each in possession of an illegal knife. They have been charged to court and placed on tag.

    20/05/25 - our Safer Travel team have been conducting patrols and metal detector operations around the town centre, bus interchange and train station.

    25/05/25 - searches and metal detector sweeps for concealed weapons in public places and parks such as Malvern and Brueton park, near high traffic areas. None found.

    02/06/25 - we have organised and held a meeting between police and various stakeholders in Solihull town centre such as council, safeguarding, business and retail representatives. We discuss and share information, themes and trends, and people of interest. This is to join up our work so we maximise our effectiveness.

    12/06/25 - we have investigated a serious robbery involving a knife, where both suspects and victims were children. This involved multiple property searches and interviewing of victims. We have also searched two people in the town centre following an indication by a drugs detecting dog.

    19/06/25 - we have attended advanced training focused around exploitation, youth violence and vulnerability. We can use these skills and knowledge in all our interactions moving fowards.

    20/06/25 - we have met with local stakeholders, security teams and CCTV operators to share information and intelligence regarding violence and youth.

    Speeding and anti-social driving

    We are aware of the concerns of local residents relating to speeding vehicles, such as on Church Hill Road, and we commit to addressing those fears. We will conduct Speed Watch operations in the area, deploy our Road Harm Prevention Team, and conduct education programmes in local colleges to reduce incidents of harm on our roads.

    12/05/25 - Road Harm Prevention Team speed check on Church Hill Road. Over two hours, 25 vehicles were detected as speeding and will be reported.

    18/05/25 - speed check on Church Hill Road in the afternoon. No speeders detected.

    22/05/25 - community speed watch on Monkspath Hall Road. Over 900 vehicles were checked with only 1 speeding vehicle detected.

    23/05/25 - community speed watch on Dorchester Road. 22/235 vehicles detected speeding. Creynolds Lane, 20/50 vehicles detected speeding. Salter Street, 2/40 vehicles detected speeding. Tanworth Lane, 0/40 vehicles detected speeding. Dog Kennel Lane, 2/50 vehicles detected speeding.

    29/05/25 - speed enforcement conducted on Church Hill Road where 6 vehicles were detected and reported for speeding.

    31/05/25 - Speedwatch on Dorchester Road, Solihull where 7/775 vehicles were detected speeding.

    02/06/25 - speed enforcement on Church Hill Road, Solihull where 1/200 vehicles were detected speeding and reported to attend court.

    03/06/25 - patrols and vehicle checks around Cheswick Green, Dickens Heath, Earlswood and Tidbury Green.

    04/06/25 - speed enforcement on Creynolds Lane. 1/30 vehicles detected speeding and reported.

    05/06/25 - we have recovered two stolen cars, undertaken further CCTV and forensic investigation, and arranged return to their owners.

    10/06/25 - we have seized a vehicle which was using a fake registration plate to conceal various offences.

    11/06/25 - speed enforcement at Church Hill Road. In one hour, no vehicles were detected as speeding.

    12/06/25 - speed enforcement at Church Hill Road. In one hour, one vehicle was detected as speeding. Another two vehicles were stopped and reported for traffic offences, one of which was seized.

    13/06/25 - speed enforcement on Dorchester Road, where 2/109 vehicles were detected speeding, and one vehicle seized.

    19/06/25 - speed enforcement on Widney Lane. 2/400 vehicles detected speeding.

    23/06/25 - we have conducted three simultaneous Street Watch patrols along with members of our community. Local residents volunteer to assist us in our patrol and engagement. If you're interested in joining these, please contact us! We also conducted a speed enforcement operation on Alderbrook Road and none of the vehicles checked were detected speeding.

    Violence and intimidation against women and girls (VAIWG)

    In Solihull, as in the rest of West Midlands Police, we are dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic violence wherever it occurs and safeguarding victims from future abuse. We are also committed to raising awareness of VAIWG and making our public places as safe as possible, so that women and girls can enjoy everything Solihull has to offer with confidence.

    17/05/25 - over the weekend, we patrolled late night bars, clubs and entertainment in Solihull to ensure that anyone vulnerable is protected from crime and assisted to get home safely.

    02/06/25 - we have organised and held a meeting between police and various stakeholders in Solihull town centre such as council, safeguarding, business and retail representatives. We discuss and share information, themes and trends, and people of interest. This is to join up our work so we maximise our effectiveness.

    03/06/25 - follow up visit to a female victim of high risk domestic abuse. We have arranged further patrols in the area and protection measures.

    21/06/25 - we have assisted at a "Safe Space" initiative during a busy town centre festival. We have provided advice, guidance, reassurance, and personal safety resources.
