Coventry Road (Heybarnes to Muntz Street) - In several locations there is open drug dealing and drug use, mainly nitrous oxide. This is bringing ASB and disorder to the area affecting the safety and wellbeing of the local community. Within this there is issues linked to 24/7 shops and those using these establishments. Womens safety has been highlighted with instances of catcalling being reported.

We have already secured a closure order on two stores in recent months with further operations planned for the month.

    September Actions

We have been in contact with our partners to ensure vehicles cannot park in front of the gates at Small Heath Park. - They are looking at moving the bollards

A vehicle has been recovered containing 29 cannisters of nitrous oxide.

Further 9 vehicles removed from the local area

    October Actions:
A further store was visited with Trading Standards in early October. During this one arrest and nitrous oxide was seized. The investigation is ongoing and we are consulting around further orders.

    November Actions:
We have visited a further two stores with Trading standards where illicit vapes and tobacco have been seized. These will be left with partners to look at closure orders. Further targeted ASB patrols along Muntz Street have also been conducted due to issues related to the Academy. We continue to engage with our partners at Turnaround Birmingham to support local street workers

    December Actions
Working with our internal and external partners, a warrant was executed linked to this issue where over £30,000 of Nitrous Oxide was recovered

    Jan - March Priority setting

Due to the persistence of this issue, asks from our community and further work planned, we have retained this as a priority for the next three months

    January Actions

In January we have been looking into the long term solution on the issue around supply of nitrous oxide. We are exploring a number of methods beyond prosecutions that may compliment and assist in preventing further supply in this area. We are planning in further enforcement through our partners and have conducted several patrols with the council over the last month

    February Actions

Working with partners on joint work with dates being agreed

    March actions

March saw us complete an enforcement visit to Easy Access superstore. Illicit items were found in the location which Trading Standards will take forward. Within a vehicle near to the premises, a quantity of nitrous oxide was recovered - This investigation continues

    April priority setting:

Work has always been ongoing on this priority for over a year now and we have been able to secure many successful closure orders. However those same tactics are now not effective. Escalating the seriousness of the impact of these locations will hopefully see more resources and tools used to tackle these more effectively. We have already seen legislation change, allowing us to close a premises for longer. In the interim, we are planning further operations but also some new enforcement options are being developed in partnership with our legal team. For this reason and the community concern, this will remain a priority

    June Update

Following some proactive patrols, a user of nitrous oxide was found and arrested, as a part of this, we identified the sale location where further arrests and searches were conducted. The investigation is ongoing

17 number plates recovered linked to various offences

All residents have been spoken to around the issues on Barnesville following our mobile week. Feedback has been offered and details of how to get in touch with the team have been provided.

    October Actions:
Continued enforcement has shown a drop in drug use and ASB. Current issue is speeding. Consultation with the council and further patrols are necessary. Further registration plates have also been seized

    November Actions:
Continued engagement with residents has not raised any further issues. Issues are being pushed further into the evening. Shift changes to combat this will be used

    December Actions
After continued patrols it is evident the issues persist but is underreported. This has lead to several incidents. We now have engagement from partners to tackle this and investigations are ongoing.

    Jan - March priorities
Due to the persistence of this problem, we have agreed to continue this as a priority for the next three months

    January Actions
We are now awaiting maitenance work through the council that will enable us to gather better evidence in this area and fully identify suspects. We have used a number of shifts to engage residents to fully understand this issue and seek feedback. Through proactive patrols, we have been able to identify a number of males and through the use of stop and search have been able to recover quantities of cannabis and refer those eligible for drugs courses whilst charging those that aren't eligible

    February Actions
We are awaiting engagement from the housing provider to look at modifications and measures that can be implemented to prevent further incidents

    March Actions
Multiple groups engaged with and warned re behaviour as civil orders will be used to prevent those causing the ASB will be prevented from being in the location.

    April priority setting:

With the nice weather coming, i anticipate an increase in ASB in this area and there are solutions still to be implemented. As a continued hotspot, we have decided to keep this as a priority until there is a noticeable resolution and sustained improvement in the area

    May Update

    June Update

Regular enforcement with numerous potential suspects identified. Civil orders have been drafted to be used. A meeting with partners has been scheduled for July

  • Blaenoriaeth:

During the April priority setting meeting, multiple people raised that there is an increase of ASB outside the Nisa Local on Finnemore Road. This is leading to excessive litter, noise and alcohol consumption. Since the meeting, community members have also been in touch to raise this issue.

    Wedi'i roi 01 Mehefin 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

    April priority setting

Following the meeting, it has been agreed that this will feature as our main community priority for the next quarter. We will now work with partners looking at licensing but also use of civil orders

    May update

A joint visit with partners was conducted at the location with advice given to the business. Those that were potential suspects outside were also spoken to and given a verbal warning

    June update

Initially there had been a reduction in the ASB following the simple intervention. However as the hot weather increased, the ASB has come back. Our DNOs are now back at the business and informing our partners for an escalation in enforcement. Civil orders have been drafted to address those causing the ASB outside.
