    Burglary Crime Prevention

    Location Focus:

    This priority has been selected in response to concerns about burglary and attempted break ins across residential areas. We will provide monthly updates detailing progress, engagement work and enforcement activity.

    Why This Priority Was Chosen

    Residents highlighted a number of issues during the consultation, including:
    •Suspicious vehicle movements and unknown persons seen in residential streets
    •Concerns about home security, sheds and outbuildings
    •A desire for more targeted crime prevention advice
    •Fear of burglary, particularly during darker evening hours
    •Requests for increased visibility and reassurance patrols

    These themes reflect recent crime reports and intelligence submissions from the public and local partners.

    Preventing burglary and keeping our communities safe remains a key priority for the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team. Over recent months, officers have continued to carry out high-visibility patrols across Kidlington and surrounding areas, focusing on locations identified through crime patterns, intelligence and concerns raised by residents.

    As part of this activity, officers have conducted a number of stop and account encounters with individuals found loitering in areas where concerns had been reported. These proactive patrols not only provide reassurance to the community but also allow officers to gather information, deter potential offenders and identify suspicious activity at an early stage.

    On 2nd July, the team arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of burglary in connection with an incident at Kidlington Football Club. The suspect has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

    Alongside enforcement activity, the team remains committed to helping residents protect themselves against burglary through prevention and engagement. Over the coming month, officers and PCSOs will be attending a number of Have Your Say events across the area, providing opportunities for local people to meet their neighbourhood team, discuss any concerns and learn more about the work being carried out in their community.

    The team will also be bringing a range of crime prevention leaflets and security advice to these events, covering topics such as home security, vehicle crime, shed and outbuilding security, and reporting suspicious activity. Officers will be happy to discuss any concerns, provide tailored advice and answer questions from residents.

    We know that community information plays an important role in preventing and detecting burglary. Even seemingly minor details can help build a wider intelligence picture and support ongoing investigations.

    You said: Burglary and suspicious activity remain concerns within the Kidlington area.

    We did: Increased high-visibility patrols, conducted stop and account encounters with individuals in areas of concern, arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary investigation at Kidlington Football Club, and scheduled further community engagement events to provide crime prevention advice and address local concerns.

    E-Scooters/E-Bikes

    Following a public consultation and online survey during May 2026, the community has identified concerns relating to the use of e-scooters and e-bikes across Kidlington.

    Issues raised include unsafe riding, illegal use on public roads and pavements, and the associated risk to pedestrians and other road users.

    In response, the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team will prioritise education, enforcement, and engagement over the next three months to improve safety and ensure compliance with legislation.

    Residents, businesses, and partners highlighted:

    •Unsafe riding on pavements and in pedestrian areas
    •Use of privately owned e-scooters on public roads, which is unlawful
    •Speeding and inconsiderate riding of e-bikes and modified cycles
    •Increased risk to vulnerable pedestrians, including elderly residents and children
    •A need for clear guidance and visible enforcement

    The use of illegal e-scooters and modified e-bikes remains a community priority for the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team due to the risks they can pose to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

    Officers continue to conduct regular patrols across Kidlington and surrounding areas, focusing on locations where concerns have previously been raised by residents.

    Positively, during recent patrol activity, the team has not encountered any illegally used e-scooters and we hope the community has also noticed a reduction in their use locally.

    This is encouraging and suggests that ongoing enforcement, education and engagement activity is having a positive impact.

    Whilst reports relating to e-scooters have reduced, the team has identified concerns regarding an illegal e-bike operating in the Yarnton area.
    Enquiries are currently ongoing to identify the individual or individuals responsible for using the bike, with a view to taking appropriate enforcement action, including the potential seizure of the vehicle and prosecution for any relevant road traffic offences.

    Many illegal e-bikes are capable of travelling at speeds far beyond those permitted under current regulations and can present a significant risk to both their riders and other members of the public. As a result, identifying and disrupting those responsible remains a priority for the Neighbourhood Team.

    Information from the public is vital in helping us locate offenders and take positive action.

    Reports regarding where these vehicles are being used, descriptions of those involved, photographs, video footage, or details of times and locations can all assist officers in progressing enquiries and directing patrols effectively.

    We would like to thank members of the public who continue to report concerns and share information with us. Every report helps us build intelligence, identify trends and focus our resources where they are needed most.

    You Said, We Did

    You said: Illegal e-scooters and e-bikes were causing concern within the community and creating risks for other road users and pedestrians.

    We did: Continued regular patrols across Kidlington and surrounding areas, monitored locations where concerns had previously been identified, observed a reduction in reports relating to e-scooters, identified an illegal e-bike operating in Yarnton, and launched enquiries to identify those responsible with a view to enforcement action and vehicle seizure.

    Anti-social Behaviour

    Following a public consultation and online survey conducted during May 2026, the community has identified drug dealing/misuse and anti-social behaviour (ASB) as ongoing priorities in:

    •Park Hill Recreation Ground

    Residents have raised concerns regarding visible drug activity, associated ASB, and the impact on community safety and quality of life. In response, the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) will deliver a coordinated, intelligence-led plan over the next three months to reduce harm and improve public confidence.

    What the Community Told Us

    Feedback from residents and partners identified:

    •Suspected drug dealing and drug use in open spaces, particularly parks
    •Associated anti-social behaviour, including gatherings causing nuisance, disorder, and intimidation
    •Concerns for young people and vulnerable individuals being drawn into harmful behaviours
    •A desire for increased visible policing and early intervention
    •Ongoing issues at repeat locations during evenings and weekends

    Tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) remains a priority for the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team. We understand the impact that anti-social behaviour can have on residents, businesses and visitors, and we are committed to ensuring that public spaces remain safe and welcoming for everyone.

    Officers continue to carry out high-visibility patrols across Kidlington, focusing on locations where concerns have been raised by the community. These patrols provide reassurance to residents, deter unwanted behaviour and allow officers to engage directly with members of the public.

    The team has also been undertaking joint patrols with Cherwell District Council's Community Safety Team, allowing a coordinated approach to tackling anti-social behaviour and addressing issues that affect the wider community. By working closely together, we can make use of a range of powers and interventions to prevent problems from escalating and improve the quality of life for local residents.

    As part of our proactive approach, officers have been making use of stop and account encounters with individuals known to the team in areas where anti-social behaviour has previously been reported.

    This engagement enables officers to gather information, challenge behaviour where appropriate and maintain a visible presence. We believe this activity is having a positive impact and helping to disrupt anti-social behaviour in the area.

    Whilst recent activity has been encouraging, we are aware that anti-social behaviour can often be under-reported.

    Incidents that may seem minor in isolation can still have a significant impact on the community and can help us identify patterns of behaviour when reported consistently.

    We would therefore encourage residents to report incidents of anti-social behaviour so that we can develop an accurate picture of local issues, direct patrols to the right locations and take appropriate action where necessary. Our aim is to make Kidlington a place where residents, businesses and visitors feel safe and are able to enjoy public spaces without fear of intimidation, nuisance or disorder.
