    Our recent Neighbourhood Policing Priorities Survey showed that speeding is the third‑highest concern for residents in Amersham. In Amersham, this continues to be a key priority for the neighbourhood team, and we remain focused on addressing speeding through regular patrols, engagement and targeted enforcement.

    The Neighbourhood Team carries out regular speed checks and enforcement across the area using roadside speed detection equipment to deter offending and take action where necessary. Drivers found exceeding the limit may be issued with tickets, and our visible presence alone often encourages motorists to reduce their speed. While enforcement activity is less frequent during the winter months, this increases as we move into spring and summer, with dedicated enforcement days already planned.

    Tackling speeding effectively requires a joined‑up approach. Changing driver behaviour and attitudes takes time, and we work closely with partner agencies and the community to make speeding socially unacceptable. We actively support Community Speed Watch in the Chesham area, and welcome new volunteers. Anyone interested can find further information at www.communityspeedwatch.org.

    We are regularly informed by residents that speeding is often linked to anti‑social driving, including excessive noise from vehicles and reckless driving, particularly during late‑night hours. These incidents can have a significant impact on local communities. Where clear evidence exists, including video footage and vehicle registration details, officers can issue Section 59 warnings, enabling further action if the behaviour continues. We encourage residents to report such incidents directly to police rather than solely sharing them on social media.

    Neighbourhood officers continue to deal with a wide range of traffic‑related offences, including uninsured driving, and appropriate enforcement action is taken in all cases. The team also regularly responds to reports of unsafe or inconsiderate driving throughout the area.

    In addition, officers proactively tackle anti‑social driving. In recent months, several vehicles have been stopped due to the manner of driving, with some seized after drivers were found to be unlicensed. These actions help reduce dangerous behaviour on our roads and improve safety for all road users.

    We also continue to receive reports of inconsiderate parking in the town centre, particularly on the zig-zag markings approaching pedestrian crossings. These restrictions are in place to protect pedestrians and maintain clear visibility for both drivers and those crossing the road. Officers have carried out enforcement activity in these areas and issued a number of Fixed Penalty Notices to motorists found committing offences. Disappointingly, many of those identified have been local residents

    The Neighbourhood Team plays an important role in preventing burglary through proactive and targeted patrols in areas affected by recent offences. When burglary patterns emerge, officers focus patrols in identified locations to deter offenders, gather intelligence, and provide reassurance to residents.

    Should a burglary occur, one of the key responsibilities of the Neighbourhood Team is conducting "cocooning" visits. This involves visiting neighbouring properties to provide tailored crime prevention advice, raise awareness of recent incidents, and help reduce the risk of further offences within the area.

    While burglary investigations are typically led by specialist detectives, neighbourhood officers make a valuable contribution by attending incidents, carrying out initial enquiries, identifying potential lines of investigation, and supporting victims throughout the process. Their visible presence is carefully directed towards areas at greater risk, with patrols and preventative activity designed to reduce opportunities for offending and improve community confidence.

    Officers also continue to take part in joint cross-border operations, including the recent Operation Pandilla. These multi-force initiatives bring together officers from neighbouring police areas over several days to target travelling offenders and disrupt those who enter the area with the intention of committing crime. By sharing intelligence and coordinating resources, these operations help identify suspects, prevent offences, and strengthen efforts to keep our communities safe.

    Alongside these patrols, the team regularly hosts Have Your Say events across the community. During these sessions, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), often supported by Police Constables, set up engagement stands in busy locations such as high streets, shopping centres, and community venues. These events provide an opportunity for residents to speak directly with local officers, receive crime prevention advice, raise concerns, and discuss issues affecting their neighbourhoods. Officers also use these events to gather feedback and better understand the priorities of the community, helping to shape local policing activity.

In response, we continue to carry out targeted activity across the area to reduce and prevent anti‑social behaviour. This remains a standing priority for the team.

    The Neighbourhood Team dedicates a significant amount of time to supporting residents with a wide range of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) concerns across the community. In Amersham, these can include ongoing noise nuisance, neighbour disputes, reports of cannabis use or related smells, littering, criminal damage, harassment, and hate-related incidents. Whatever the nature of the issue, officers aim to engage with all parties involved, understand the circumstances, and work towards a fair, proportionate and lasting resolution.

    A large proportion of reported incidents are categorised as personal ASB, often involving disputes between neighbours or individuals that have escalated over time. In many cases, the Neighbourhood Team takes the lead in managing these matters, working closely with those affected to assess risk, provide advice, and, where appropriate, utilise formal interventions or support from partner agencies to achieve longer-term solutions.

    Where Anti-Social Behaviour crosses the threshold into criminality, neighbourhood officers carry out full investigations. Some incidents can be resolved quickly through early intervention, words of advice, or low-level enforcement. Others are more complex and require sustained engagement, evidence gathering and partnership working.

    We recognise that certain locations, including car parks, leisure facilities, and parts of the town centre, can occasionally attract behaviour that causes concern to local residents and visitors. These areas remain a focus for targeted patrols, with officers maintaining a visible presence, engaging with those using the spaces, and taking action where necessary to prevent issues from escalating and to provide reassurance to the wider community.

    Where individuals responsible for persistent anti-social behaviour are identified, officers will take firm, fair, and proportionate action. This may include warning letters, Acceptable Behaviour Agreements, Community Protection Warnings, or the use of more robust enforcement powers where circumstances require. Our aim is to prevent repeat incidents, protect those affected, and help ensure Amersham remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and visit.

    Through proactive patrols, partnership working, and engagement with the community, the Neighbourhood Team will continue to address anti-social behaviour and respond to the concerns raised by local residents.
