The Clifton Beat Team is continuing to work on a number of tactics aimed at deterring vehicle crime and reducing reports of vehicle break-ins across the area. This includes conducting targeted patrols in locations where incidents are reported more frequently, providing crime prevention advice to residents and visitors, and engaging with local communities to raise awareness of simple measures that can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

Officers are encouraging motorists to remove valuables from vehicles, ensure doors and windows are secured, and report any suspicious behaviour. Through a combination of high-visibility patrols, preventative advice, and focused activity in identified hotspot areas, the team aims to reduce opportunities for offenders and keep our communities safe.

    Brighter night, safer streets

Our priority within the night‑time economy is to enhance safety and reduce the risk of violence against women and girls through increased evening and night patrols, providing a visible and reassuring presence in key areas. Officers will engage with the public by handing out leaflets containing safety information and support resources, while also conducting regular licensing checks to ensure venues are meeting their responsibilities. We will continue to promote and monitor the Street Safe initiative, encouraging the community to report areas of concern so we can respond effectively. Engagement with the wider public will remain a key focus, ensuring all members of the community are aware of available safety schemes and local support. We will also work closely with licensed premises to promote the Ask Angela initiative, helping create safer spaces where anyone feeling unsafe can discreetly seek assistance from staff.

    Ask for Angela

    Wedi'i roi 11 Ebrill 2026

    Camau a gymerwyd:

The Clifton Beat Team has recently completed Operation Vigilant training, providing officers with the skills and awareness to proactively identify suspicious behaviour and safeguard vulnerable people within the night-time economy. As part of this work, officers have been carrying out high-visibility patrols and engaging with local pubs, bars, and clubs to strengthen partnerships and improve public safety.

The team has also been visiting licensed premises to promote the Ask for Angela scheme. This initiative encourages venues to support anyone who may feel unsafe, vulnerable, or uncomfortable during a night out. By discreetly asking a member of staff for “Angela”, individuals can receive appropriate assistance to safely remove themselves from a situation they do not wish to be in.
Through proactive patrols, venue engagement, and the promotion of safety initiatives such as Ask for Angela, the Clifton Beat Team is working with local businesses to help ensure the night-time economy remains a safe and welcoming environment for all.
    Forward Planning
With the evenings drawing in and students returning to Bristol, the Clifton Beat Team will continue to focus on initiatives aimed at keeping people safe and raising awareness of issues that can affect our communities.
We will be holding a series of “Talk to Us” events, providing advice and information around Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), personal safety, and how to access support. Details of these events will be advertised on this webpage as they are confirmed.
In addition, officers will be visiting local hotels and other accommodation providers to work with staff on recognising the signs of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. These visits will focus on helping staff identify potential victims, understand how to report concerns, and ensure vulnerable individuals receive the appropriate safeguarding and support.
By working closely with local businesses, students, residents, and partner organisations, the Clifton Beat Team remains committed to creating a safer environment for everyone living in, working in, and visiting Clifton.
