About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Vehicle Crime

We have seen an increase in Theft of Motor Vehicles particularly high value vehicles, from local beauty spots including Newmillerdam and Anglers Country Park.

We now have a dedicated team looking into these offences, tracking patterns across the district and building an intelligence picture which we will be able to use to identify offenders.

    Issued 24 August 2026

    Action taken:

Dedicated officers now have a number of named suspects who are being looked at as the investigation gathers pace.

We have raised awareness of this type of crime on our social media pages and leaflet drops have been conducted in the hot-spot locations with advice leaflets for motorists left on windscreens.

    Actioned 24 August 2026

  • Priority:

    Anti-social vehicle use and speeding

We will increase patrols in identified areas of demand and run speeding operations at these locations, taking positive action against offenders.

We continue to provide high visibility patrols to disrupt ‘car meets’ in the area to reduce speeding and anti-social vehicles use.

Work is ongoing with partners to resolve the issue in the longer term and there is a Public Spaces Protection Order in place on Tuscany Way, Altofts.

    Issued 24 August 2026

    Action taken:

Although the number of overall car meets has declined, we have seen a recent increase in calls for service as the car meets pass through the district.

Wakefield NPT officers have issued several tickets for breach of PSPO – mainly at Xscape, Castleford, as well as sending over 100 warning letters to vehicle owners.

The teams will continue the enforcement across the district.

    Actioned 24 August 2026

  • Priority:

    Anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour including youths abusing members of the public and the illegal use of motor bikes in the local parks and various areas of Wakefield West.

We aim to reduce these incidents by providing high visibility patrols in the area, working with Wakefield Council and key partners to identify and proactively deal with offenders, and setting up days off action with the off-road bike team.

You can report anti-social behaviour to us by using our online reporting system or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

    Issued 24 August 2026

    Action taken:

Over the summer months we have seen a number of succussful operations take place alongside the Wakefield District Off-Road Bike Team.

Young people, either riders or connected to the riding of illegal e-vehicles, plus their parents/guardians have been offered information regarding the safety and legal issues involved and a number of warnings under S.59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 been issued to riders acting in anti-social manner.
