Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    • Anti-Social Behaviour/Drug related issues
Reports suggest that there is frequent drug dealing and using in the Hillhouse area within the Greenhead ward causing disruptive behaviour and that individuals are buying and using drugs in public spaces. This is causing community concern and distress to local residents. Along with the reports of drug taking there is also an increase in ASB associated with such matter and littering and noise nuisance are a concern. The priority is, in conjunction with partners, to deal with drug related offences, and associated ASB in and around the highlighted locations.

    • Traffic, Road safety and poor parking
There has been an increase in reports of poor, anti-social parking at various locations in Huddersfield. Reports suggest that poor parking is occurring around various educational venues, causing local issues and concerns. The priority will be for the police to work in conjunction with partners to provide education and reinforcement around these areas.  Further partnership working will tackle  illegal and ASB driving. This will see targeted patrols and days of action established to address these issues

    • Reducing Theft from Motor Vehicles
Vehicle-related crime continues to impact communities across Huddersfield, with offenders targeting both secure and insecure vehicles. Key concerns include the targeting of insecure vehicles parked on the street or driveways by opportunist offenders. This later leads to the fraudulent use of stolen bank cards. These offences not only disrupt livelihoods but also contribute to wider community unease and a sense of vulnerability. Reducing vehicle crime is a priority to improve public confidence, protect property, and support the resilience of local communities..

    • Shop Theft
We will be focusing on tackling thefts from local businesses and retail premises, as well as addressing reports of individuals begging near shopfronts, which has been causing concern for staff and customers. Businesses are encouraged to report incidents via 101 (non-emergency) or our online reporting facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it or alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.

    Action taken:

    • Anti-Social Behaviour/Drug related issues - Over the last few weeks, the Neighbourhood Policing Team has continued to tackle anti-social behaviour through targeted patrols, community engagement, and partnership working. We have held a number of contact points across the ward to gather feedback from residents and identify concerns. Using community information, incident reports, and police intelligence, we have focused our efforts on locations experiencing the highest levels of ASB. High-visibility patrols have been increased at identified hotspots, including continued problem-solving work in the Greenhead area. Throughout the summer, we have also targeted youth-related ASB, carrying out patrols with partner agencies, including Youth Justice services, to engage with young people and prevent issues escalating. We have worked closely with partner organisations to resolve ongoing concerns and have taken robust action against repeat offenders, using appropriate legislation and problem-solving measures where necessary. Over the coming weeks, we will continue to hold contact points and PACT meetings, carry out targeted days of action, and focus our resources on the issues that matter most to local residents.

    • Traffic, Road safety and poor parking - Work has continued across the ward to address concerns relating to traffic offences, road safety and poor parking, particularly around schools and other locations where residents have reported anti-social and inconsiderate vehicle use.
Neighbourhood Policing Teams have worked closely with partner agencies to deliver a number of targeted operations aimed at improving road safety and reducing vehicle-related anti-social behaviour. This has included joint activity with Immigration Enforcement and the Huddersfield Town Centre Team, focusing on vehicles, e-bikes and e-scooters being used within the food delivery industry. These operations have provided opportunities to identify offences, ensure compliance with legislation and engage with riders regarding safe and lawful use of the road network.
The team has also undertaken several Days of Action in partnership with local primary schools. These operations have focused on educating, and where appropriate taking enforcement action against drivers around safe and considerate parking, promoting road safety messages and addressing concerns relating to vehicle condition and roadworthiness. Engagement with parents and carers has been well received and has helped reinforce the importance of creating a safe environment for children travelling to and from school.
Further dedicated activity has been carried out across the Crosland Moor ward in response to concerns regarding obstructive and inconsiderate parking. This work has been delivered jointly with Local Authority Parking Services, combining enforcement and education to address persistent issues and improve compliance.
To enhance our ability to tackle speeding and support future enforcement activity, the number of officers trained to use ProLaser speed detection devices has been increased. This additional capability will be utilised during forthcoming road safety operations, enabling the team to target identified speeding hotspots and respond to concerns raised by residents.
Partnership working remains central to this priority, and further joint operations, targeted patrols and enforcement activity are planned to address illegal driving, anti-social vehicle use and road safety concerns across the ward. The aim remains to make local roads safer for all users whilst improving the quality of life for residents and communities.

    • Reducing Theft from Motor Vehicles - Reducing theft from motor vehicles remains a key priority within the Huddersfield area. We are committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible for these offences, ensuring offenders are brought before the courts and held accountable for their actions.
Officers are carrying out targeted patrols in areas identified through crime and intelligence reports as being at increased risk of vehicle crime. These additional high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols aim to deter offenders, reassure the public, and provide opportunities to identify and apprehend those involved in criminal activity.
Where offenders have been identified, robust investigative work has been undertaken to secure arrests and progress cases through the criminal justice system. We will continue to work closely with partner agencies and use all available intelligence and evidential opportunities to bring offenders to justice.
Alongside enforcement activity, significant crime prevention work has been carried out across the ward. Officers have engaged with residents, businesses, and community groups to provide practical advice on reducing the risk of vehicle crime. This has included encouraging vehicle owners to remove valuables from view, ensure vehicles are locked and secured, utilise additional security measures such as steering locks and CCTV, and report suspicious activity promptly.
Crime prevention messages have also been shared through community meetings, social media, and targeted leafleting in areas affected by theft from motor vehicles. Through a combination of proactive enforcement, increased patrols, offender management, and preventative engagement, we will continue to work towards reducing vehicle crime and improving community safety within the ward.

    • Shop Theft - Town Centre - Teams continue to work with business owners to share intelligence and take enforcement action. NPT Officers have issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) to known nominals. Our dedicated Town Centre Team are increasing patrols and visibility to deter crime, provide reassurance to businesses, and ensure the public feel safe. NPT Officers have conducted revisits to identify offenders early so arrests could be made promptly. Police Contact Points have been set up in high-footfall areas to reassure businesses and the public, while offering an opportunity for residents to discuss local issues and receive crime prevention advice.
