About us

    Traffic and Road Safety 

    • Speeding and failure to stop at junctions in residential areas.
    • Unsafe use of e-scooters on pavements.
    • Anti-social driving: high-powered vehicles, engine revving, noise pollution.
    • Drug/alcohol-related driving offences.
    • Ongoing nuisance from off-road bikes.
       

    Anti-Social Behaviour  

    • Increase in youth-related ASB in public spaces.
    • Gatherings with suspected cannabis use causing community distress.
    • Criminal damage to parks and public amenities.
    • Theft and public order offences
       

    Drug Activity 

    • Increase in drug dealing in public areas, impacting community safety.
       

    Shop Theft

    • Theft from local businesses and retail premises.
    • Reports of begging near business premises, causing concern for staff and customers.

    Action

    Traffic and Road Safety

    • Patrols in hotspot areas under Operation Trimburg which has resulted in multiple seizures and Traffic Offence Reports being issued, these patrols will continue.
    • Acting on community intelligence, NPT Officers have recovered several vehicles that were abandoned, involved in crime, uninsured, or reported stolen and subsequently found.
    • Ongoing engagement has taken place with persistent venues linked to high powered sports vehicles, focusing on deterrence and compliance.
    • Work has continued over recent months, resulting in dozens of vehicle seizures, along with a significant number of traffic tickets and Section 59 warnings being issued.

     

    Anti-Social Behaviour  

    • Partnered with Kirklees Youth Outreach to signpost positive activities.
    • Ward officers have continued to attend community meetings for reassurance.
    • Continue targeting repeat ASB offenders through the use of Community Protection Warnings. 
    • Closure orders have been secured on premises linked to ongoing anti-social behaviour.
    • Upcoming ASB week has school inputs and targeted patrols and operations planned for areas with increased ASB.
    • We have conducted a number of multi-agency days in Dewsbury East & West working closely with our partners in Kirklees Council.



    Drug Activity

    • Maintain proactive enforcement activity across all ward areas, resulting in arrests, charges, and out-of-court disposals for drug-related offences. 
    • Progress a number of ongoing, complex investigations into drug offences, many of which are expected to lead to significant custodial sentences. 
    • Continue targeted work to tackle drug use and supply across all areas, with a new project focusing on issues in Dewsbury South and Mirfield, with further details to follow.



    Shop Theft

    • Town Centre Teams are working with business owners to share intelligence and take enforcement action.
    • Our dedicated Town Centre Team are increasing patrols and visibility to deter crime, provide reassurance to businesses, and ensure the public feel safe.
    • Officers continue to revisit reported shop thefts promptly to secure CCTV evidence and identify suspects at the earliest opportunity.
    • Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices have been issued to repeat demand nominals involved in begging outside retail premises.
    • Contact points are being actively utilised to provide crime prevention advice and create opportunities for face to face engagement between officers and the community.
