Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Issue: Shop Thefts

This is a priority for the next 3 months, based on community feedback, crime data and engagement with partners.

    Issued 01 November 2026

    Action taken:

    We will:
-Deal robustly with shoplifting in the local area, and target repeat offenders so that local businesses can have trust and confidence in their Police service.

    We did August 2026 -
Collaborative work is on-going with partner agencies
Liaison with West Midlands police for the cross border offenders to share intelligence

    We did September 2026 -
We have increased visible patrols around local shops and continued to speak with businesses to encourage reporting and the sharing of information. This has helped us focus our attention on repeat offenders and identify opportunities to take positive action. Our increased presence also provides reassurance to shop staff and shows that reports of shoplifting are being taken seriously. We will continue to deal robustly with shop theft, target repeat offenders and work closely with local businesses to help prevent further offending and maintain trust and confidence in local policing.

    We did October 2026-
We have continued to support local retailers through regular engagement and targeted patrols in areas most affected by shop theft. By strengthening relationships with businesses and encouraging the reporting of incidents, we have developed a better understanding of local offending patterns and those responsible for repeat offences. This approach has enabled us to take positive action where opportunities arise, while our visible presence provides reassurance to staff and demonstrates our commitment to tackling retail crime. Going forward, we will remain focused on identifying and disrupting repeat offenders, working in partnership with businesses to reduce offending and maintain confidence in local policing.
