Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Road Safety and Traffic Offences:
We will address concerns relating to speeding, anti-social vehicle use and other road traffic offences across COOKHAM. This will be delivered through a combination of high-visibility patrols, targeted enforcement activity and effective use of partner agency resources. Officers will take robust action against those who disregard road safety, utilising fixed penalty notices, vehicle seizure powers and prosecution where appropriate.
    Lead: PCSO HOLMES

    Issued 01 October 2026

    Action taken:

02/10/2026: Following consultation with local residents and partner agencies, officers from the NHPT and Safety Camera Team attended several locations across COOKHAM to assess their suitability for future speed enforcement deployments. A number of sites were identified and work is now underway to establish them for future operations. During the enforcement activity, two motorists were detected speeding, one by the Safety Camera Team and one by PS JENKINS using a handheld speed detection device. Officers also dealt with a vehicle displaying illegal window tints, which were removed at the roadside.

02/10/2026: The NHPT and Safety Camera Team deployed to COOKHAM to engage with local residents, listen to community concerns and carry out road safety enforcement activity. During the deployment, officers conducted speed checks and provided reassurance to members of the public.

03/10/2026: Officers from the Roads Policing Unit conducted targeted patrols on WHYTELADYES LANE, SUTTON LANE, SWITCHBACK ROAD NORTH and WINTER HILL during reported peak periods of concern. The operation included speed enforcement using a handheld speed detection device. No speeding offences, racing activity or other road traffic offences were identified during the patrols.

04/10/2026: Officers carried out speed enforcement on THE MOOR in COOKHAM in response to concerns raised by local residents. During the operation, two motorists were reported for exceeding the 30mph speed limit. Six drivers were subjected to roadside breath tests, all of which returned negative results for alcohol. One driver tested positive for cannabis during a roadside drugs test and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. A charging decision will be considered following analysis of the evidential blood sample.

07/10/2026: High-visibility patrol conducted at Winter Hill. Individuals present were identified and details recorded to assist ongoing investigations into reports of vehicle racing and anti-social behaviour within the area.
