About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

    Issued 01 March 2026

    Action taken:

•Continued work with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

•Hotspot areas and targeted patrols include areas through The Crouch gardens and The Salts as well as the town centre as part of our Winter of Action initiative to deter crime, and identify offenders during the winter months.

•Engagement events continue as an opportunity for residents to raise concerns and highlight areas of ASB direct to officer, all reports help to assist officers in their patrol locations to ensure together we are providing a police presence in areas which have seen an increase in ASB.

    Actioned 01 April 2026

  • Priority:

    Operation Downsway

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

    Issued 01 March 2026

    Action taken:

•Extra patrols, educational and enforcement activities across the district focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving.

•Days of action held in the last few months to target ASB driving on the roads of Seaford and along the coast around excess speeding; these have led to a number of positive stops and vehicle seizures, details of which have been added to our Sussex Police website, and posted to our Lewes Police Facebook page.

    Actioned 01 April 2026

  • Priority:

    Town Centre business crime

Supporting town centre businesses in targeting repeat offenders, and working to reduce business crime through collaborative work, through both increased patrols, and police and partner led operations to tackle business crime, and bring those responsible to justice.

    Issued 01 March 2026

    Action taken:

    • Additional 'Hot-spot' Police patrols under the Summer Of Action initiative aimed offering a high visibility police presence in the town centre will soon pick up again following the successes of our Winter of Action. It will see an increase in patrol hours over the Summer months in your town centre.

•Continued joint activities with partners to support staff and business in the town centre.

•A number of positive arrests made for crimes against businesses in the area in recent months, details of these have been posted to our Sussex Police website and our Lewes Police Facebook page.

    Actioned 01 April 2026
