About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Operation Atal has taken place in the Cyncoed area alongside GoSafe and South Wales Fire and Rescue service - The teams worked together to monitor vehicles and stopping those driving above the speed limit, not wearing a seatbelt and any other traffic related offences.

    419 cars monitored
    52 educated for speeding
    4 issued seat belt advice
    1 fined for excess speeding

Engagement plays a crucial role in road safety. Those stopped are given an option of immediately attending an educational session with the Fire and Rescue Service or accepting a fixed penalty. This is currently a £100 on the spot fine for a seat belt offence or £100 and 3 points on your licence for a speeding offence.

    Antisocial behaviour - Cyncoed Campus

    Issued 01 September 2025

    Action taken:

We have carried out high-visibility patrols in identified areas and worked with Cardiff Met University to address ASB issues.

Stills from CCTV were shared with local schools, which was key in leading to the identification of many youths, some of which had repeatedly been causing issues at the site. For those identified, ASB referrals have been submitted and warning letters served.

The University has also undergone a programme to improve security measures.

Over the school summer holidays the University ran a Youth Sports Inclusion programme; the University approached schools in the local community to offer this programme to their students; in return the students were expected to respect both the site and staff; this has helped in building and improving relations with youths.

Overall, this joint approach has proven successful with a drop in ASB at the site.

  • Priority:

    Antisocial behaviour - Roath Park

    Issued 01 September 2025

    Action taken:

We have carried out high-visibility patrols in identified areas.

Several persons have been stop searched, some which were dealt with for possession of cannabis. Several others have been identified through CCTV and subsequently issued warning letters through the ASB process.

There were reports of a homeless person causing ASB issues in the park area, who was subsequently identified and dealt with through the ASB process. This person was also referred for support.

    Vehicle crime

    Issued 01 September 2025

    Action taken:

We have conducted a crime prevention talk and a Question-and-Answer session about a variety of crime types, including vehicle crime, at Park End Church, which was both well attended and received.

The overall trend of vehicle crime across the ward has decreased.
