About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Anti-social behaviour around Monument, Blackett Street, Haymarket Bus Station, Old Eldon Sq

    Issued 31 March 2026

    Action taken:

We’ve seen an increase in anti-social behaviour around Haymarket Interchange. To address this, we’re conducting uniformed and plain-clothes patrols, reviewing CCTV, and using dispersal powers and Community Protection Warnings. Project Guardian is providing extra patrols focused on prevention and early intervention.
As we approach the summer nights and school holidays , we’ll use the Graded Response process with the City Council, notifying parents through letters and home visits, escalating to enforcement only if behaviour continues.

    Actioned 30 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Serious violence

    Issued 31 March 2026

    Action taken:

We have a proactive Operation Spear team focused on reducing serious violence in the city centre. They identify key individuals early, target offenders, and use measures such as remand applications, conditions, Community Protection Warnings, and Criminal Behaviour Orders to disrupt offending. Through City Safe partners, we also identify individuals who would benefit from diversion and intervention. As a result, serious violence has reduced by 10% year-on-year. Project Guardian will also see additional uniformed presence in the city centre, to prevent, deter serious violence.

    Actioned 30 June 2026

  • Priority:

Prevent and deter sexual offending within the night time economy

    Issued 31 March 2026

    Action taken:

We run a focused night-time economy plan every Friday and Saturday, with uniformed officers in high-footfall areas. Operation Cloak deploys both uniformed and plain-clothes officers to deter sexual offending and intervene early, while Operation Salus targets vehicle-related risks. Officers are briefed to spot vulnerability and provide immediate safeguarding. Our Safe Haven van operates in the Bigg Market from 10pm–4am with police and medical support. Planning is underway for enhanced patrols and safeguarding over the festive period.

    Actioned 30 June 2026
