About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Op Eyeful - This is our rural watch operation in which we use Police Volunteers. The operation is run by PCSO Pete Lewis should anyone wish to join as a volunteer please contact [email protected] who can provide further details on signing up.

    Multi-service patrols are conducted weekly with an emphasis on patrols of the A171/174 and the Esk Valley. These patrols, which include the Ministry of Defence police, Our specialist operations teams will be supporting local policing units on Op Tornado events into the new year.

  • Priority:

    Anti-Social Behaviour in Whitby Town Centre within the vicinity of Whitby Bus Station. The Neighbourhood Policing Team are working with North Yorkshire Council Community Safety Hub, North Yorkshire Council Transport and Arriva looking at long term problem solving solution.

    Operation Dredger a Multi Agency Problem Solving Plan (PSP) has commenced development in relation to the ASB around Whitby Bus Station.
    PC Josh Barnes is the lead officer for this PSP.

    Operation Monsoon. Rural burglaries and acquisitive crime in Whitby, Esk Valley, Danby, Castleton, Mulgrave and Staithes. the Police team are currently investigating a spate of burglaries and thefts in the rural areas of Whitby in which quad bikes and agricultural machinery has been stolen.

    Action taken:

    High visibility patrols combined with public engagements and preventative work intended to detect and deter offenders and locate machinery and vehicles. A series of public meetings will be held over the festive period and into the new year to raise awareness and convey a message of crime prevention to vulnerable communities.

  • Priority:

    North Yorkshire Police are working in partnership with British Transport Police, North Yorkshire Council, as well as other agencies to tackle the anti-social behaviour around Whitby Train station.

    Action taken:

    North Yorkshire Police and British Transport Police are working together in order to decrease the number of reports involving anti-social behaviour around the vicinity of the train station.

    This will involve a number of engagements with various agencies over the next few months to encourage those involved to curb their behaviours around the area.
