About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti-Social Behaviour - General

Priority identified through the Community Message Priority Survey 01/07/2026 - 31/07/2026.

ASB has been identified as a key priority for Selby Neighbourhood Policing Team. Local residents have told us that ASB can have a significant impact on their quality of life, affecting how safe people feel in their communities and public spaces.

    Issued 01 August 2026

    Action taken:

    Our Response

We will work closely with partner agencies, local councils, housing providers and community groups to identify and address the causes of ASB, take enforcement action where appropriate, and support those affected by nuisance and disorder. Through targeted patrols, engagement with young people, early intervention and problem-solving approaches, we are committed to reducing ASB and helping to keep Selby a safe place to live, work and visit.

    Actioned 18 August 2026

  • Priority:

    Parking Issues

Priority identified through the Community Messaging Priority Survey 01/07/2026 - 31/07/2026.

Parking issues, particularly around school pick‑up and drop‑off times, remain a priority for North Yorkshire Police in Selby. We recognise the concerns this causes for residents, parents and schools, particularly in terms of safety and accessibility. This will continue to be a focus for us heading into the new school year in September.

    Issued 01 August 2026

    Action taken:

    Our Response

Local neighbourhood officers carry out targeted patrols during peak school times to address parking concerns and improve safety. We also work closely with our School Liaison Officers, who engage directly with schools to promote safe parking practices and support long-term solutions. This will continue to be a focus for us heading into the new school year in September.

    Actioned 18 August 2026

  • Priority:

    Speeding

Priority identified through the Community Messaging Priority Survey 01/07/2026 - 31/07/2026.

Residents across the Selby area have identified speeding and road safety as a significant concern. Excessive speed can increase the risk of collisions, reduce road safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and negatively affect the quality of life in our communities. Through Community Messenger feedback and ongoing engagement with residents, speeding has been highlighted as an issue that causes concern in a number of locations across the district.

    Report a speeding concern: https://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/wsi/watch-schemes-initiatives/community-speedwatch/community-speed-watch/tell-us-about-a-speed-concern/

    Issued 01 August 2026

    Action taken:

    Our Response

Selby Neighbourhood Policing Team will work with local communities, North Yorkshire Council, the Road Safety Team and Roads Policing colleagues to address speeding concerns across the district. Our activity will include targeted patrols in identified hotspot locations, community speed monitoring, enforcement where appropriate, and the deployment of safety camera vans at sites highlighted through community feedback and collision data. We will continue to use information provided by residents and partner agencies to focus our efforts where they are needed most, improving road safety and reducing the risk posed by speeding vehicles.
