About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Shoplifting offences

    Action taken:

    St Helier Ward and other teams will aim to tackle and reduce shoplifting offences and bring offenders to justice by;
    - Completing operations on Morden High Street targeting those committing theft offences
    - Working with business premises to ID offenders through the use of CCTV or other enquiries
    - Work with other teams within the Metropolitan police to secure convictions where there is appropriate evidence of an offence
    - Patrol areas where there are a higher number of shoplifting offences as part of a typical daily deployment

    End of January 2026 an operation took place with Merton Council ASB team targeting theft in Morden - on this day 3 people were arrested.
    We have another operation running Saturday 28th February 2026 and further operations planned in April 2026.

    Burglary

    Action taken:

    Officers and PCSO's will visit all victims of burglary, offering re-assurance and crime prevention advice to the community.
    Working in partnership with our investigation teams we will look to identify any evidential leads, such as CCTV to pursue offenders and bring justice to victims.

    We are also setting up pro-active operations targeting burglary and motor vehicle crime in the area and surrounding, next operations taking place end of March and start of April 2026

    Motor-vehicle crime - both theft of and theft from motor vehicle

    Action taken:

    Pro-active operations have taken place in an attempt to tackle this issue, officers working extended or additional shifts has taken place targeting areas of high motor-vehicle crime which has lead to arrests of offenders during the deployments.

    Preventing thefts from can be achieved from not leaving any money or valuables in unattended vehicles

    The most recent operation took place in the first two weeks of January 2026, in the two week deployment there was only one reported motor vehicle based crime
