Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti-Social Behaviour:
This quarter ASB remains a priority to the people of Oakham & Barleythorpe. Anti-Social Behaviour will be resolved with high visibility patrols and community engagement to identify offenders within local hotspot areas.

    Issued 01 April 2026

    Action taken:

Over the past month, our team has been out on foot across Oakham Town Centre, Cutts Close Park, Colleridge Way, Derwent Drive, Welland Way Park and The Sidings, working alongside the Safer Streets Team, Rutland County Council, and LFRS. These areas were highlighted following ASB concerns raised by local residents.

We have reviewed our local policing priorities, and following community feedback, they remain the same. In line with these priorities, we have continued to carry out targeted patrols in identified ASB hotspot areas to provide visibility, reassurance, and proactive intervention.

We’ve also been engaging with local schools, offering early support and guidance to help address issues before they escalate. In addition, we have maintained dedicated foot patrols in Oakham’s shopping areas to help prevent incidents of anti‑social behaviour and support local businesses.

  • Priority:

    Drugs:
This quarter we will be looking to act on the selling and use of drugs as a priority in Oakham & Barleythorpe after consultation with the community.

Intelligence development is progressing to ensure areas where drug use or supply is being conducted are being targeted to ensure offenders are being dealt with.

    Issued 01 April 2026

    Action taken:

Last month, we reviewed our quarterly priorities, and these have remained the same following continued concerns around drug‑related activity in the area.

As part of our proactive work, officers have stopped drug dealers, seized vehicles linked to drug offences, and carried out targeted activity in key locations. We also continue to work closely with our partners, including local housing providers, to address community issues and improve safety.
Several matters are now subject to ongoing investigations relating to the supply of drugs within the town.

  • Priority:

    Road Safety:
Road Safety is continuing to feature as being a priority to the people of Oakham & Barleythorpe.

Further high visibility presence within affected areas, with use of the handheld speed monitoring device will be completed regularly to ensure offenders are dealt with in a timely manner and robust way.

We will continue to work with partner agencies, such a the Road Safety Partnership mobile speed camera van.

    Issued 01 April 2026

    Action taken:

Last month, we reviewed our quarterly priorities, and these have remained the same, with road‑related concerns continuing to be a key focus.

As part of this work, officers have carried out a number of intelligence‑led vehicle stops, taking appropriate action where required. This has included issuing Section 59 warnings, which are used when a vehicle is being driven in a manner that is careless, inconsiderate, off‑road where prohibited, or causing alarm, distress or annoyance to the public.

We continue to monitor roads where speeding and nuisance driving have been reported, using both independent patrols and joint work with Roads Policing colleagues to target the areas of greatest concern.
