About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Highways obstructions.

    Issued 22 April 2026

    Action taken:

We have been working closely with the council's Parking Enforcement Team to address parking concerns in the area. During morning delivery periods, officers engage with drivers and provide advice on safe and considerate parking and loading practices. The aim is to ensure the High Street remains accessible for everyone, including pedestrians, wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, cyclists and other road users. This partnership approach helps to reduce obstructions, improve safety and keep the High Street welcoming and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors.

    Actioned 30 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Homelessness.

    Issued 22 April 2026

    Action taken:

We continue to work closely with Canterbury City Council and Catching Lives to support vulnerable people within the city centre. This partnership work includes helping individuals who are experiencing homelessness and ensuring they can access the support and services they need. Officers and partner agencies are also working together to develop long-term solutions to address ongoing issues affecting the Longmarket area. By taking a joined-up approach, partners aim to support vulnerable people while also addressing behaviour that can have a negative impact on local residents, businesses and visitors.

    Actioned 30 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Road safety issues.

    Issued 22 April 2026

    Action taken:

Following concerns raised about speeding on Whitstable Road and other roads surrounding the city centre, officers are arranging further speed checks to help improve road safety and address community concerns. These checks will help officers monitor vehicle speeds, engage with drivers and take enforcement action where appropriate. Road safety remains a priority, and information provided by residents helps police identify locations where speeding may be affecting the local community. Officers will continue to work with local people to identify problem areas and carry out targeted activity to encourage safer driving and make the roads safer for everyone.
