About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Road safety.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to carry out road safety patrols and enforcement activity across the area. Speed detection equipment is used whenever operationally possible to identify drivers exceeding the speed limit and address concerns raised by residents. Officers also use My Community Voice to share road safety advice, raise awareness of the law relating to e-scooters and e-bikes, and encourage safer driving. Vehicles found to be on the road without valid insurance, road tax or other legal requirements are seized where appropriate, and drivers are dealt with for relevant offences. Residents are encouraged to get involved with Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led scheme that helps identify speeding concerns and improve road safety within local communities.

    Nuisance motorcycles.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to take action against the illegal and antisocial use of e-scooters and e-bikes across the Romney Marsh area. Information shared through My Community Voice helps raise awareness of the laws relating to these vehicles and encourages safe and responsible use. In Lydd, an e-scooter was recently seized after it was being ridden illegally and in a way that could have put the rider and others at risk. Officers remain committed to taking a robust approach to the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes and will continue to carry out patrols and enforcement activity where offences are identified. Officers are also investigating reports of a motorcycle being ridden dangerously without a registration plate, and enquiries are ongoing to identify the rider and take appropriate action.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to maintain a visible presence in Walland, Dengemarsh and the wider Romney Marsh area, helping to deter antisocial behaviour and provide reassurance to local residents. Regular patrols are carried out in towns and villages across the area, with officers responding to concerns raised by the community and taking action where necessary. Officers also work closely with partner organisations to identify and address issues that may contribute to antisocial behaviour. Recent partnership work with the local council helped remove a location that was being used to conceal drug use and antisocial behaviour, resulting in an immediate improvement in the area. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting concerns, as information from the community helps officers and partner agencies identify problems and develop effective long-term solutions.
