About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Catapults.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to work with partner organisations to tackle catapult-related antisocial behaviour. Regular patrols are carried out in hotspot areas, including Singleton Lakes, to deter offending and protect local residents and wildlife. Officers have identified and arrested individuals linked to these offences and have seized a number of catapults. In some cases, officers have applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which is a court order that places restrictions on a person's behaviour to help prevent further offending.

    Young people involved in lower-level incidents may also be offered an Acceptable Behaviour Agreement, which is a voluntary agreement between the young person, their family and partner agencies that sets out clear expectations for future behaviour. Through enforcement, education and partnership working, officers continue to take action to prevent catapult misuse and reduce its impact on the community.

    Road safety issues.

    Action taken:

    Officers have carried out speed checks and targeted enforcement activity in Singleton, Stanhope, Washford Farm and the Beaver area in response to road safety concerns raised by residents.

    Drivers found committing offences may be issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR), which is a formal process used to deal with road traffic offences, while others may receive advice and education to encourage safer driving. Officers also took action against the illegal use of e-scooters, including seizing an e-scooter from a young rider in Singleton after it was being ridden on the road in a way that posed a risk to both the rider and other road users. Through ongoing patrols and enforcement activity, officers continue to improve road safety and address concerns raised by the community.

    Nuisance motorcycles.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to tackle nuisance motorcycles in the Stanhope and Cuckoo Woods area through targeted patrols and enforcement activity. Following the seizure of several motorcycles being used in an antisocial manner, reports of nuisance motorcycle incidents have reduced. Officers continue to carry out proactive patrols, work alongside specialist roads policing teams during dedicated enforcement days and act on information provided by residents. Information shared through My Community Voice and other reporting channels helps officers identify offenders, target activity and improve community safety.
