About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Drug Dealing Activity
We are aware of ongoing concerns regarding drug‑dealing activity in the West Leigh and Atherleigh areas.
Neighbourhood officers have increased high‑visibility patrols to provide reassurance to the community and to deter criminal activity. In addition, officers are carrying out enhanced stop and search activity, based on intelligence and information received from the public.
This targeted approach has resulted in positive outcomes, and we will continue to use all available powers and resources to disrupt drug‑related activity, identify those involved, and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
We encourage residents to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour, as community intelligence plays a vital role in shaping our ongoing policing activity.

    Retail Crime
We investigate all reports of retail crime where viable lines of enquiry exist. Our Neighbourhood Policing Team takes a proactive and targeted approach, focusing on repeat offenders and regularly affected locations to ensure a consistent and effective response.
Where appropriate, we seek Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) through the courts against persistent offenders. Updates on enforcement outcomes are shared via our social media channels and Bee in the Loop to keep the community informed.
Currently, we have identified seven repeat perpetrators responsible for multiple incidents of retail crime across the Atherleigh and West Leigh areas. Through successful prosecutions, CBOs have been secured against all eight individuals, including four orders obtained since the start of this year.
We remain committed to supporting local businesses, disrupting ongoing offending, and using all available powers to reduce retail crime in our communities.

  • Priority:

Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings take place every 3–4 months and are advertised through Bee in the Loop. These meetings provide an opportunity for residents to meet local police and partner teams, raise concerns, and discuss issues affecting their neighbourhood.
You can sign up to Bee in the Loop via the Greater Manchester Police website homepage to receive updates and information about upcoming meetings and local policing activity.

    Issued 30 April 2026

    Action taken:

We recently held a Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting in April, where the main concerns raised by residents were antisocial behaviour (ASB) and drug‑dealing activities in the area.
In response, we are increasing our operational focus with enhanced plans and high‑visibility patrols. Officers have already carried out a number of off‑road and plain‑clothes operations, and we will continue to deliver targeted speed enforcement at the locations highlighted during the meeting.
A further PACT meeting will be held in the coming months. Details of the date and venue will be confirmed and shared in due course via Bee in the Loop and this website.

    Actioned 30 July 2026

  • Priority:

    Off‑Road Bikes
Neighbourhood officers are carrying out high‑visibility patrols across the area to reduce vehicle noise and antisocial behaviour (ASB).
Operation Hurricane is being conducted on an ongoing basis across West Leigh and the Atherleigh area, with particular focus on Bikershaw Country Park and other locations where reports have been received.
As a result of this activity, a number of off‑road bikes have been seized. We will continue to use our resources to deter this behaviour and take enforcement action to prevent it happening across our beat.

    Issued 30 April 2026

    Action taken:

More police visibility in the area
