About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Parking in the Market Square taxi and loading bays. Also outside of sandwich shop.

    Action taken:

    Engagement with Durham council and Parking Wardens as well as regular patrol and speaking to motorists regarding parking and the signposting to free parking areas within walking distance of the shops. The Wardens have been notified patrols are planned. Various motorists have been spoken to whilst officers are out on patrol. Bollards are in place outside B&M to prevent parking.

    ASB in the Lakes estate. Coniston Road. and Thirlmere road.

    Action taken:

    Extra patrols, walkabout with partner agencies, Street Warden joint walkaround around Market place and Dean bank. Patrols continue at Hotspot times. Op Pave patrols still active. Joint visits with the housing provider have been conducted. One person was detained and the bike seized.

    Abandonned building Fereymount in the town center. Attracted ASB and Nuisance previous to it being boarded up.

    Action taken:

    Working with Partner agencies to find a solution. The Building has now been secured. Dedicated patrols at hotspot times. Street wardens also actively patrolling. Building became insecure after the boarding Council re secured. The building remains secure. 01/11/2025 Building has been checked and is secure also the Durham Constabulary dog unit has this on regular patrol. Building remains secure. Latest update is that the building is in the process of being bought.

    Residents are concerned about vehicles exceeding the speed limit through the Market square and Darlington road. Also other areas in the town.

    Action taken:

    Road Safety event in the planning. Police Speed watch also to be carried out on varied dates and times to raise awareness. Road Safety event was cancelled due to the weather. New date to be organized.
    Event was planned for 20/11/2025, However this has been cancelled due to weather conditions. Another event will be arranged. Speed watch with the local school is planned. Activity with Approach two and Cleves cross school was carried out. A letter written by pupils was handed to parents asking for them to be considerate when they park. Speed Awareness was held at the council meeting.

    Shop watch has been upgraded and implemented. Team continues to promptly tackle the issue.
