About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

The neighbourhood policing department in Southmead have seized well over 10 Sur-Ron bikes in the last few months, this is down to you providing us with information and intelligence as to where these bikes are being kept or what they look like or who is riding them.

A report no matter how big or small will help us build a bigger intelligence picture of the what is happening within Southmead.

  • Priority:

Supporting the NHS at Southmead Hospital is a key local policing priority. We recognise the vital role the hospital plays within our community and the pressures faced daily by NHS staff, patients and visitors. Our focus is on providing visible, accessible and consistent policing support to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who uses the site.

To deliver this commitment, we have a dedicated neighbourhood officer, PC 3076 Jason Redfield, who works closely with Southmead Hospital and partner agencies. PC Redfield acts as a single point of contact, enabling strong relationships with hospital management, security teams and frontline NHS staff, and ensuring concerns are identified and addressed promptly. As part of this priority, we will be holding regular community engagement events, both public-facing and staff-facing. These events are designed to:

    • Give hospital staff the opportunity to raise concerns directly with policing teams
    • Provide reassurance and advice around personal safety, crime prevention and reporting
    • Strengthen relationships between police, the NHS and the wider community
By maintaining a dedicated policing presence and engaging openly with those who work in and use Southmead Hospital, we aim to support the NHS, prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, and ensure Southmead Hospital remains a safe place for care, work and recovery.

PC Jason Redfield works every week day between 7am and 4pm. He can be found on site. In an emergency at Southmead Hospital, you should always call 999 first. If you are a member of staff, security can also be contacted to assist anywhere on site.

  • Priority:

We are focused to help on Greystoke Avenue and the surrounding area in Southmead. That means we carry out regular patrols, speak to shop staff, and look out for things like theft, nuisance groups, or any behaviour that might cause concern.

We’re also focusing on anti-social behaviour more widely across Southmead, so if there are issues like street drinking, drug use, or disruptive behaviour, we’ll deal with those as well. The aim is to keep the area safe, reassure the community, and prevent problems before they escalate.
