Police workforce diversity data from 2021

Police workforce data is based on self declared ethnicity data. Black and minority ethnic (BME) data charts exclude those who did not state their ethnicity. 

The number of officers and staff are presented on a full time equivalent basis (e.g. someone working 1 day per week is counted as 0.2), rounded to the nearest whole number. Figures for special constables are shown on a headcount basis, as they do not have contracted working hours.

Percentages for police officers, police staff and PCSOs are calculated using unrounded FTE numbers. Unrounded numbers of FTE workers can also be found in that publication.
