About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Autumn Seasonal Advice With harvesting activities concluding and valuable machinery, tools and fuel being stored for winter, we encourage owners to:

    • Secure outbuildings, barns and containers.
    • Mark and record valuable property and equipment.
    • Review security lighting, CCTV and gate security.
    • Report suspicious vehicles or individuals in rural areas promptly.

      Your information is vital in helping us tackle rural crime. If you see suspicious activity, unfamiliar vehicles in remote locations, or offences taking place, please report it via 101 or online. In an emergency, or where a crime is in progress, always call 999. Working together, we can help keep our rural communities safe throughout the autumn and winter seasons.

    We attended Cutcombe Market for our monthly visit on 14th October.  It was great to meet with the farming community, giving advice and reassurance on both farm and non-farm related issues.

  • Priority:

    After a busy summer,  we will be renewing our focus on the local community, seeking opportunities and events to give crime reduction advice in relation to rural crime and how to avoid becoming a victim of a fraudster/scammer.  We have planned a number of engagements between now and December, including Pop up Police Posts, visits to Talking Cafe, Cutcombe Market and others.   All details are advertised on the events section of the website, on village websites and on Dulverton station notice board.   We are always looking for opportunities to engage with our communities so please get in touch if you would like us to visit your village.

    It’s been a busy and productive month for the neighbourhood policing team, with plenty of opportunities to engage with local communities across the area. We attended the final Farmers’ Market of the season at Dulverton, took part in Local Community Network (LCN) meeting  and carried out regular foot patrols in the towns of Dulverton, Dunster and Porlock. Its always great to take opportunities to speak with residents, visitors and local businesses, helping us better understand community concerns and offer reassurance.

    Looking ahead, we have a series of Pop-Up Police Posts planned for 7 November in Brushford, Brompton Regis and Exford. Further details, including times and locations, can be found on our website. If your village, community group or local event would like a police visit, please get in touch and let us know.
    Together, we can continue building strong and connected communities across Exmoor and the surrounding area.

    Drink and drug driving remains a key policing priority due to the significant risk it poses to road users and the wider community. Patrols will continue to focus on identifying and dealing with offenders through proactive vehicle stops, intelligence-led operations, and engagement with partner agencies. Residents are encouraged to report concerns regarding suspected drink or drug drivers. Enforcement action will be taken where offences are identified, with the aim of reducing collisions, preventing injuries, and improving road safety for everyone.
