Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Nuisance and Anti-Social Bikes - We will continue to disrupt and target the use of off-road bikes and quad bikes being used anti-socially across Wakefield East, including those being used in the drugs supply network. We aim to do this through gathering community intelligence to informed operations with our Off-Road Bike Team. We plan to further target offenders by linking in with Vico Homes (and other housing providers) housing companies and Wakefield Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Officers. We encourage the public to report incidents of nuisance bikes, quad bikes and off road bikes on our online reporting form.

Youth Anti-Social Behaviour - As we start heading towards springtime, we will continue to conduct high-visibility patrols in the key areas where youth anti-social behaviour is an issue. Working closely with Arriva and our Safer Travel officers to ensure that those young people causing issues at our bus stations are banned and dealt with appropriately. We will also continue to work with Wakefield Council and key partners to identify and proactively deal with offenders and utilise diversionary tactics where suitable.

Theft from Shop - We will continue to target known shoplifters through proactive patrols and regular Contact Points in the area. Partnership work will continue with VICO Homes (& other Housing Providers) and Wakefield Council to address concerns, target the tenancy of offenders and support the community. We will also continue to work with the local shop owners and bigger retailers like Co-Op, B&M, Morrisons, and Tesco in gathering information.

    Action taken:

Nuisance and Anti-Social Bikes - Partnership working continues with the Off-Road Bike team who are reporting high levels of seizures and positive outcomes. Community intelligence is being used to identify hotspot areas and divert patrols. We have now entered the summer period, when, historically issues start to increase due to the warmer weather and light nights. To combat this, our off road bike team will continue to be intelligence led when planning patrols. Officers have noted an increase in positive outcomes in recent months, which is only possibly because of the community working with us. there has been several operations conducted during the spring and these will continue through the summer months

Youth Anti-Social Behaviour - Our officers continue to patrol areas that cause concern to our communities. Safer Travels officers are holding regular contact points at bus stations to engage with the community and improve relationships with Arriva staff. The ASB has changed drastically now we are into the lighter nights. We see an increase in youth related Anti Social Behaviour. Officers continue to use a variety of methods to engage with youths, dealing with any issues and offences appropriately. ASB is and always will be an issue, which we continue to deal with accordingly. PCSO's regularly attend at schools & youth clubs to educate the younger community on ASB and the negative impact of crime.

Theft from Shop - Several offenders have been sentenced at court and Wakefield Council have successfully applied for Criminal Behaviour Orders on individuals. These orders carry certain conditions that grant Police powers of arrest if breached. Our officers continue their close relationships with local shops to ensure that partnership working leads to positive court outcomes. Officers have been conducting dedicated Town centre patrols, speaking to staff and shoppers and robustly dealing with shop theft suspects. Theft & ASB will always be an issue, regardless of the time of year. we will use the same tactics, a combination of crime prevention and targeting prolific offenders. The PSPO is now well in place and assists us be more robust. Dedicated patrols by Police Officers on foot continue and have been extremely successful.
