About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    * Reduce Youth offending and Anti-social behaviour in the Oaklands Recreation park, Ackers and Small Heath Park and the flats in the area, with conducting regular patrols and work in partnership with partner agencies and owners of the properties to put further security measures in place for residents, with attending to incidents were reported regarding this matter.

    * Reduce crime in and around the Swan shopping centre and Yew Tree – specifically focusing on Shoplifters, ASB and Street Cohort. To also support businesses with their daily issues and concerns and give them a voice with regular meetings.

    * Reduce various types of Vehicle Crime in the area with conducting patrols around targeted hot spot areas, asking other departments to support.

    * To rebuild the trust back in the community by being consistent with projects, meetings and to ensure we are consistent with these.

    * To get more members involved in our Street Watch scheme and Empowered Steps.

    Issued 02 June 2025

    Action taken:

*Our patrols are being conducted by the team covering targeted areas of the parks, flats, shopping centres which has led to numerous arrests and alternative positive action taken, resulting into offenders being charged, out of court disposals conducted or encouraged to disperse to prevent any uninvited behaviour. This has helped with reducing anti-social behaviour in areas that are a concern. But, we are aware we still have more work to do.

    * Business watch meetings were initially postponed due to a restructure to Neighbourhood. This has now been reinstated and dates have been confirmed and letters are being sent out to business owners in the coming weeks.

    * Vehicles parked inconsiderately have been issued a ticket, this is where drivers are not paying attention to the road signs, road markings, blocking pavements so pedestrians are affected to walk past. A member of the team has been proactively engaging with our Road harm prevention team gaining Off road bikers in our local parks and Traffic vehicles to conduct patrols in the area of concern to residents. They have also been able to secure the Mobile speed van with a permanent site on a main road which has seen successful returns and we are hoping with these results; other departments will support the area in reducing vehicles committing crime on our roads. In addition, this will hopefully support us in obtaining further measures to be put into place for further reduction in Vehicle crime, specifically targeting speeding. The officer is now working on a second site for the Mobile speed van to further reduce the anti-social behaviour and speeding on our roads.

    * We are currently in the process of organising a partnership day on some of the roads that have been persistent with complaints of concerns around parking, no tax vehicle, businesses and their trade. This will take place in the coming months and this is still in the process of being organised. Further details will be released once all confirmed.

    * Empowered Steps: This is a new project that PC Smith has launched for South Yardley. This is to help women within our community to come together and walk with us, to build their trust and confidence back with walking the streets again. This will also help them build a rapport with the team. The walk is for only 30 minutes and this took place on Sunday 29th June in Oaklands Recreational Ground. Meeting point is behind the Skate park on the path. We had one person attend and we are really keen to get more of the community involved. The next one is scheduled is to be confirmed.
