Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

The Stratford Road corridor and Parkgate in Shirley are vibrant centres of the community and shop crime impact on the safety and enjoyment of shoppers and employees alike. We understand the impact that business crime has on our partners and their livelihoods and we pledge to work in concert with the Local Authority and businesses to it more efficiently and promote the well-being of our town. It also attracts Anti Social Behaviour that causes further issues within the area.

    Issued 01 July 2026

    Action taken:

Daily patrols along the Stratford Road of both plain clothed and uniformed officers is allowing identification of prolific offenders and allowing for proactive work to be used to prevent offences before they are being committed. 50 offences have been prosecuted this month resulting in fines, community sentences and custodial sentences for various offenders. We continue to work in collaboration with the Shirley Retail Radio link to shops on the Stratford Road which has had a massive positive effect already with increased communication between partners and proactive prevention of crime as well as incorporating the wider BCRP strategy into the Shirley area.

    Actioned 01 July 2026

  • Priority:

Our communities can be confident that they live in a relatively safe place. Unfortunately theft of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles can be a problem. Therefore we will look to combine proactive operations, using overt police tactics and technological initiatives, with bespoke crime prevention methods, to reduce the effect that vehicle crime has on people’s lives and livelihoods.

    Issued 01 July 2026

    Action taken:

Officers have been carrying out high visibility patrols around the Shirley area and using ANPR technology to assist with targeting individuals linked to vehicle crime. WMnow has been used to provide crime prevention advice as well as high visibility patrols around areas that have been victims of car crime for reassurance, guidance and support with crime prevention advice. Plain clothes operations have been conducted to assist with reducing offences resulting in a number of stop searches around Shirley. On going work with local retail parks and car parks to look at wider use of ANPR cameras and CCTV.
Use of Force resources including Traffic units and Mounted Units to support patrol strategies and disrupt offenders.

    Actioned 01 July 2026

  • Priority:

It goes without saying that everyone should feel safe in their home, and it is important to underline that the great majority of the time, people’s homes are safe. However we recognise that burglary is a very traumatic and impactive experience so will prioritise not only the way we respond to reports of burglary, but the way we try to prevent it happening in the first place. We will combine intelligence led proactive patrols, targeting of offenders, crime prevention initiatives and wraparound victim care to focus on reducing the occurrence and impact of burglary.

    Issued 01 July 2026

    Action taken:

Reassurance and targeted patrols in areas of Shirley that have been victims of recent burglaries. Use of WMnow to provide security advice to home owners and warn them of criminal activity in the area as well as advising them of property that is being targeted by offenders to increase vigilance by owners. Reassurance patrols conducted around the affected areas and several home owners visited this week who had been impacted by burglaries and provided with materials to prevent further occurrences.
Plain clothes patrols in areas that have been identified as hot spots.
WMnow messages sent to affected areas to alert of issues in area as well as any obvious trends where preventative measures can be put into place.
Ward meetings are used to discuss trends and targets of offenders to provide suitable crime prevention advice and proactive responses from householders.

    Actioned 01 July 2026
