About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Business crime, specifically shop thefts at the two retail parks. Although a slight decrease in shop thefts, This is still a recurring problem for the local neighbourhood team..

    Issued 19 June 2026

    Action taken:

The local officers are aware of prolific shop theft offenders and are working hard to gain as much evidence as possible to support convictions in court. We are aware that the shoplifting funds other crime related issues, such as drug and alcohol abuse and we are working with partnership agencies and making referrals where appropriate.
The team are constantly working with partnership agencies and retail management to identify these offenders through business watch, and offender management. We will continue to target key nominals who are causing the most harm and issuing them with Criminal Behaviour Orders to prevent them returning and further offending.
If you know of any specifically targeted areas, or those who are committing the offences, or have any suggestions on how to prevent offences (ideas we may not have thought of), please get in touch with the local team on the website, in person, or Crimestoppers anonymously. We would like to hear from you..

    Actioned 19 June 2026

  • Priority:

Speeding in the Selly Park area alongside Parking issues.

    Issued 19 June 2026

    Action taken:

We have had fewer reports of Speeding and Parking concerns around the Selly Park area in recent months - but will keep this as a priority at the moment. PCSO led community speedwatch operations to be planned

We have more PCSO's trained in speedwatch operations than before and will be carrying out Community Speed Watch sessions to help tackle speeding in the area and get the community involved where we can. In addition, we will be monitoring parking issues on Oakfield Road alongside others in close proximity and warning letters or tickets will be issued when required. The local team will monitor these areas with a view to completing speed gun operations and speed camera van days.

    Actioned 19 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Residential burglary.

    Issued 19 June 2026

    Action taken:

Burglary will remain a priority for the local team and wider teams and partners.
We are carrying out crime prevention to students in particular and are working alongside students from University of Birmingham to educate the community in how to prevent becoming a victim of crime.

This will remain a priority as Selly Oak accommodates a large student population within the Bournbrook area which naturally leads to a high turnover of residents for Selly Oak.

We have designated University Officers who play a key role in educating new and existing students through lectures, crime prevention advice and products. Selly Oak Team also send out weekly updates to our residents with crime prevention advice through WMNOW messaging services, our website lists meeting dates, times, and locations providing residents the opportunity to share any concerns they may have.

Our Officers will be out over the next few weeks delivering letters to residents in the Bournbrook area on how to keep their home and valuables safe and secure as part of a burglary campaign in preventing residents from becoming victims.

The Selly Oak Team will continue to work with our community to help prevent burglary offences and investigate those crimes to identify and arrest those responsible.

If you require any crime prevention tools such as window alarms, please get in touch and we can arrange to attend your property, complete a security survey and supply crime prevention tools if we have them.
