About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti-social behaviour

    Issued 28 September 2023

    Action taken:

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) has had a significant impact on Faringdon’s community in the recent months. In an effort to reduce the crime committed in the area fuelled by anti-social behaviour the team has made a number of arrests that has seen the offenders issued with 3 community resolutions: a youth caution; two Community Protection Warnings and a fixed penalty notice. The team have also been working alongside statutory and third-sector organisations in order to introduce a youth provision to the town that will focus on education and diversion in hope to see a long term reduction in ASB. We are committed to dealing with the issues that the community raise to us and develop a large quantity of intelligence to target areas of high threat and risk.

  • Priority:

    Rural Crime

    Issued 28 September 2023

    Action taken:

Faringdon and its surrounding areas have seen a significant increase in those travelling to the area in order to partake in the illegal event of hare coursing.
The Neighbourhood team along with the Rural Crime Task Force have completed targeted patrols in well-known areas and have acted on live reports that have been made by the rural community. We encourage that all illegal hare coursing is reported to the Police either on 999, if in progress and on 101 if the offenders are not present. The team remain to have a good relationship through regular engagement with land owners and gate keepers across the area. This allows for the fast time sharing of information leading to the quick apprehension of suspects and optimal gathering of evidence associated with Rural Crime.
The neighbourhood's crime prevention specialists have completed a large number of visits to target hardened businesses, farms and building sites. This year Faringdon and its surrounding villages have seen a dramatic decrease in crime associated with theft and burglary to these establishments due to their efforts. Their efforts have also seen a reduction in the amount of the community that have been repeat victims to these crimes.

  • Priority:

    Drug Use

    Issued 28 September 2023

    Action taken:

The Neighbourhood have dedicated time to analyse drug related crime. This has allowed the team to complete targeted patrols in areas identified through this work. You would have recently seen the team take to their bikes to complete these patrols. This has resulted in a number of positive stop searches that have led to the seizure of drugs and prosecution of offenders. In many cases the team have been able to divert individuals to partners that have provided help; education; guidance and support around the use of illegal substances.
The neighbourhood hold monthly meetings with the council and its partners. Spaces have been identified where additional lighting will be placed to deter individuals from congregating in order to use.
