Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Speeding
Speeding has been identified as an issue in our rural villages. Community Speedwatch is running in some villages with others looking to set up schemes in their areas.
The Neighbourhood Team are happy to support this where available and contact details are given.
Roads Policing colleagues have been asked to provide support in the Clifton area based on recent evidence provided by the CSW volunteers.

    Issued 26 March 2025

    Action taken:

    May update:
The Neighbourhood Team have worked alongside West Oxfordshire NHPT, Roads Policing and the Rural Crime Team on dedicated Op Scalis operations. Here we use ANPR data and proactive policing methods in order to focus on those using are roads carelessly and illegally.
During May we held an operation running from Chipping Norton across the rural villages where a number of vehicles were seized and an arrest made of a male, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

The fixed safety camera date for April shows 1080 offences identified from the mobile cameras (data for whole of Cherwell)

    Actioned 31 May 2025

  • Priority:

Parking - particularly around schools - all areas however Bloxham a repeat area of concern.

Local residents have made representations around anti social and illegal parking in the area. This is particularly around schools at drop off and pick up time.

The Banbury Neighbourhood Team PCSOs are all tasked with high visibility patrols around the schools during these times. These patrols will take place at both our rural and urban school locations and take place when shifts allow. PCSOs can give fixed penalty tickets where appropriate and are supported by Police Officers from the team. Schools are encouraged to continue with their own messaging to parents around this and we have close links with the schools so that any ongoing issues can be raised to us promptly.

    Issued 26 February 2025

    Action taken:

    May update:
Due to significant incidents that have occurred regionally our PCSOs have been significantly abstracted to cover other commitments, thus meaning there have been less patrols in May.
We hope to increase these throughout June and as ever promote good parking from parents around school drop off / pick up time.

This priority is also shared with Banbury Town schools and as such we encourage the public to be mindful of our resources v how many schools there are.

    Actioned 31 May 2025

  • Priority:

Theft of and from motor vehicles

The Neighbourhood Team have held a number of crime prevention meetings in villages across recent months. We are aware Great Bourton has been subject to offending and we are looking to identify a suitable date to hold a have your say meeting with residents in the near future.

Our Rural Crime Team continue to actively patrol and run operations and updates are available on their social media pages.

    Issued 26 March 2025

    Action taken:

    May update:
Following our previous arrests linked to this type of offending we have now submitted a file for review where we are looking to seek charges against 2 identified suspects.

There has been a decrease in reports of this type of offending during May.

    Actioned 31 May 2025
