About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

•Officers continue working alongside youth officers, partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges where our Neighbourhood Youth Officers regularly visit to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

    • Targeted ASB patrols will continue into the Summer months, with officers visiting local parks, and open green spaces in the area to address and take action against reports of ASB in the form of nuisance caused by youngsters in the area.

    Actioned 01 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Business Crime

Supporting local businesses in targeting repeat offenders, and working to reduce business crime through collaborative work, through both increased patrols, and police and partner led operations to tackle business crime, and bring those responsible to justice.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

•Additional town centre patrols to offer reassurances and deter crime associated with town centre as part of our Summer Of Action initiative launching again this Summer following last year's successes.

•Officers continue to visit local businesses to not only offer advice and support following around business crime/business theft, but also to support and encourage reporting of incidents at the time.

•Continued use of the Lewes and Eastbourne Business Crime Reduction Partnership Disc system; which offers local businesses a more streamlined way of reporting incidents, as well as suspect galleries and in App messaging/alerts to share details with other businesses signed up; aimed at helping build on the already strong relationship between police and local businesses in the area to ultimately reduce business crime in Lewes.

    Actioned 01 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Operation Downsway

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

•Continued targeted patrols, educational and enforcement activities across the district throughout in the last few months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, and mobile phone use.

•Recent partner activities including ESFRS in areas of high road usage saw days of action in areas of Ousedale, Phoenix Causeway and Nevill resulting in a number of traffic related offences, details published to Sussex Police website, and Lewes Police Facebook pages.

    Actioned 01 June 2026
