Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Residents in Lightwood and the wider Longton South area have raised clear concerns about speeding and anti-social driving.

    Issued 02 September 2025

    Action taken:

We are actively working in partnership with the local authority to explore potential traffic calming measures and to promote road safety through education. Alongside this, we are liaising with our road policing team to identify opportunities for targeted enforcement in key hotspot areas where dangerous driving behaviours have been reported.

We’re also proud to support a dedicated group of local residents who run a Community Speed Watch initiative. Their ongoing commitment has already produced positive results and plays a vital role in both deterring speeding and raising awareness of the risks associated with it. We will continue to use a combination of education, partnership working, community involvement, and enforcement to reduce the risks associated with speeding and antisocial driving in the coming months.

    Actioned 30 September 2025

  • Priority:

Community cohesion and relationship building between the communities of Lightwood and Longton South where concerns have been raised around celebrations, particularly the use of fireworks.

    Issued 02 September 2025

    Action taken:

We are working alongside residents and local councillors to promote community to build relationships. We want to encourage a better understanding of how this can impact people’s quality of life, while at the same time recognising and respecting important cultural traditions. By building that awareness together, we can help ensure celebrations are enjoyed in a way that is considerate to everyone.

  • Priority:

Speeding and anti social vehicle use

    Issued 03 December 2025

    Action taken:

We are actively working in partnership with the local authority to explore potential traffic calming measures and to promote road safety through education. Alongside this, we are liaising with our road policing team to identify opportunities for targeted enforcement in key hotspot areas where dangerous driving behaviours have been reported. We’re also proud to support a dedicated group of local residents who run a Community Speed Watch initiative. Their ongoing commitment has already produced positive results and plays a vital role in both deterring speeding and raising awareness of the risks associated with it. Ensuring the safety of all road users and residents remains a top priority. We will continue to use a combination of education, partnership working, community involvement, and enforcement to reduce the risks associated with speeding and antisocial driving in the coming months.

  • Priority:

    Fireworks and Noise Related Nuisance

    Issued 03 December 2025

    Action taken:

We have recently received a significant number of reports regarding the misuse of fireworks in the Normacot and Lightwood area, causing distress and nuisance to residents and their pets. In response, officers have increased high-visibility patrols and made use of dispersal powers to tackle those responsible.

We have also invested in SmartWater technology to support the identification and investigation of suspects involved in these incidents. Our aim is to ensure the community remains as peaceful and safe as possible, and we encourage residents to continue reporting any concerns. We will continue to monitor this issue with a problem solving lens under Operation Sparkle but we are confident now Halloween and Bonfire Night celebrations are over, a significant reduction will be observed.

    Actioned 31 December 2025

  • Priority:

    Serious Violence Linked to Drugs

    Issued 10 March 2026

    Action taken:

There has been an increase of reports in the area around incidents of public order and serious violence. We as the police have taken robust action both at the time of the incidents and subsequently when dealing with the suspects through the justice process. We have a patrol strategy in place, which will remain in the coming months and we will be completing high visibility patrol in the area for reassurance in the community. Should any residents want to share any information around your concerns, or have information around drug dealing, then please report them to the police directly or via Crimestoppers. This can be done anonymously. We have completed a number of drugs warrants from information received, so please continue to support our proactivity in dismantling these drugs gangs.

  • Priority:

    Unsafe Parking

    Issued 10 March 2026

    Action taken:

Local residents and Counscellors have raised concerns about the unsafe parking of vehicles, especially around the mosque on Chaplin Road. We will be working with our road crime team and local authority partners in the coming months to move to enforcement around this. There has been a lot of educational work done with the local residents and people visiting the mosque but sadly the issue remains. We want to ensure that the roads and pavements are safe for residents and visitors to the area, especially the children, who are being put at the greatest risk from the overcrowding of the vehicles inappropriately parked.
