About us

About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Residential Burglary

    Issued 10 March 2026

    Action taken:

To reduce and prevent offences by targeting/disrupting offenders and crime prevention methods. A trigger plan is in place to ensure a robust response to reports of burglary with each specialist department playing their part in securing convictions.

    Actioned 01 May 2026

  • Priority:

Coastal ASB linked to the Metro system.

    Issued 03 March 2026

    Action taken:

Anti-social behaviour along the Whitley Bay coastline continues to rise during lighter evenings and warm weather. Multi-agency operations have identified groups travelling to the coast via the Metro as a key factor in pockets of disorder and youth-related ASB at coastal hotspots.
Partnership work through Operation Early Bird and Operation Coastwatch has reduced ASB year-on-year but residents and businesses remain concerned about gatherings, noise, and disorder around Metro stations and seafront locations.
Given the continuing community impact and the clear link between Metro travel and coastal ASB, this will remain a neighbourhood priority, with a focus on visible patrols, problem-solving with partners, and targeted youth engagement.

    Actioned 01 September 2026

  • Priority:

    Retail Crime

    Issued 10 March 2026

    Action taken:

Prevention: Increase high-visibility patrols in retail areas, especially during peak shopping times.
Partnership with businesses: Work with local retailers to implement crime prevention measures (CCTV, staff training, reporting protocols).
Targeted Offender Disruption: Identify and monitor prolific shoplifters and organised retail crime groups.

    Actioned 01 August 2026
