About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Burglary, shoplifting and criminal damage of retail premises, taking into consideration night time economy and alcohol-related behaviour within town centres.

    We’re engaging with stores and increasing patrols and visibility in town centres. Positive action is being taken, including arrests, consideration of remands, and pursuing Criminal Behaviour Orders on charge.

    Rural theft of vehicles, machinery, quadbikes in farm locations. Including increase in fuel and oil thefts, and theft of batteries.

    Action taken:

    Supporting farms, rural communities, and industrial estates through crime-prevention advice and a visible policing presence, including regular engagement at Hexham Mart. Support via the Rural Crime Team. Target hardening with locations through our crime prevention advisors. Offender focused, with information sharing between forces, use of covert tactics.

    Anti-social behaviour in park areas and abandoned buildings, including littering, use of nitrous oxide, underage drinking, and criminal damage.

    Action taken:

    Increased patrols, partnership work with local counsellors, schools and fire service. Educational inputs, identification of culprits, Youth Justice Services, letters and behaviour contracts. Vehicle checks and powers under drink/drug drive legislation.
