About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Motorcycle related crime and anti-social behaviour

    Action taken:

    Operation Capio includes drone deployments, undercover patrols and focused days of action working in partnership with Sunderland City Council Anti-Social Behaviour team and other key stakeholders. We are proactively targeting known offenders whilst gathering intelligence from residents and businesses. Together with partners we are also looking at making changes to the physical locations affected, with target hardening measures including landscaping, boulders, barriers etc.

    Retail crime

    Action taken:

    A problem orientated policing plan is in place to support repeat victims and target prolific offenders. Partnership work is ongoing with key premises to assist in crime prevention. Prolific offenders are being identified as shoplift nominals and arrested with civil orders being used to deter and prevent offending. Neighbourhood officers are working closely with the Op Canvas team to target prolific offenders.

    Youth anti-social behaviour at Middle Hendon/Long Streets

    Action taken:

    A new youth cohort is being identified and days of action are being undertaken. Joint working with Sunderland City Council anti-social behaviour team and other key stakeholders including Gentoo and Together for Children.
