About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Retail Crime – This is an issue for many business throughout the area we cover from Stokesley Police Station.

    Issued 23 April 2026

    Action taken:

    - Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to liaise with Business owners on a regular basis.
    - Where Business fall outside of general foot patrol, such as Garden Centres, we aim to hold Police Drop Ins to increase presence and engage with customers.
    - Shop Theft has shown a significant reduction in December 2025 around North Yorkshire
    - Cross Border collaboration - We will continue to work with our neighbouring forces to target criminals who travel to commit crime in North Yorkshire.
In May two persons pleaded guilty to multiple thefts from Hutton Rudby following a positive vehicle stop by Police.
Officers continue to work with local retailers and carry out high visibility patrols

    Actioned 16 July 2026

  • Priority:

OP Respond - This is the force response to the prevention and detection of burglaries. We regularly visit any known offenders and will share useful advice around prevention of burglaries.

    Issued 23 April 2026

    Action taken:

    - Residential and Commercial Burglaries have reduced by half since October.
    - Rural Task Force - Specialist Ops - Neighbourhood Policing Teams continue to work alongside Neighbouring Forces such as Cleveland to target Criminals
    - Property Marking is available, Please make contact with Local Neighbourhood Policing Team for details.
    - Neighbourhood Policing Teams will conduct Super Cocooning in the event of a Burglary to gather evidence, raise awareness and increase prevention.

Recently we have conducted late night/early morning patrols, conducting crime prevention engagement through daily work and Op Tornado.

We also recovered a Quad Bike from the Middlesbrough area on Op Tornado with further collaborative work with bordering forces.

Please keep an eye on events for rural drop ins with our Neighbourhood Officers.

    Actioned 16 July 2026

  • Priority:

There has been a spike in ASB in the Greta Ayton area. The issues include door knocking/kicking and groups causing issues in businesses.
To add to this when the weather is good, Great Ayton attracts visitors from outside the area, gathering in fields and leaving litter.

    Issued 09 June 2026

    Action taken:

There has been an increase in high visibility patrols in the area, the community have been encouraged to report incidents, alongside this officers identifying incidents through foot and mobile patrols. There is a natural increase in incidents reported which is expected with the proactive policing and partner agency work.
Those involved have been identified or are in the process of being identified where appropriate action has/will be taken by Police or partners in the community safety hub.
We continue to engage with the Community and the Parish Council with updates and plans going forward.
Work has continued, although we expect to see an increase throughout the summer, work will continue through engagement and proactive patrols.

    Actioned 16 July 2026
