Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Op Circumference - We are continuing our efforts to tackle cross-border criminality, with a particular focus on two-in-one vehicle thefts and residential burglaries in the villages surrounding our command area.

In recent weeks, offences have been concentrated in the Sherburn area. This remains a top priority for us, and we are working hard to identify and disrupt those responsible.

If you have any information or notice suspicious activity, please report it to us via [101], online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers. Your support is vital in helping us keep our communities safe.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

Operation Circumference is focused on tackling cross-border criminals entering our district to steal vehicles and commit burglary offences. We’ve secured additional specialist support at Force level, enabling us to patrol border areas more effectively and target travelling offenders.

This operation is ongoing. Recently, we’ve seen an increase in residential burglaries in Sherburn village. In response, our teams are carrying out enhanced night-time patrols to deter offenders and protect our communities.

    please remember:

Lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home.
Keep vehicles secure and remove valuables from sight.
Report suspicious activity immediately via 101 or online.
Stay alert during darker evenings and look out for your neighbours.

Your vigilance and reports make a real difference. Together, we can reduce burglary and keep our communities safe.

    Actioned 21 June 2026

  • Priority:

Operation Republic is focused on tackling anti-social and dangerous driving around the Selby Fork area. The operation also covers the Motorist venue during weekends and addresses issues with off-road motorcycles in Byram and Brotherton.

Our aim is to improve road safety, reduce nuisance behaviour, and protect local communities. Officers are carrying out targeted patrols and enforcement activity to deter offenders and take action where necessary.

If you witness dangerous driving or illegal off-road biking, please report it via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers. Your information helps us keep our roads and villages safe.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

Sadly, we have had a few car meets over the past few weeks within our area. We are working colleagues within WYP to try and deter this. The meets generally happen in the West Yorkshire area and then move over into North Yorkshire. We are continuing patrols along with Ops support units and specialist teams. Please continue to report incidents to us. We have also noted an increase in these vehicles driving towards the Sherburn Industrial estate, again please report any concerns to us.

    Actioned 21 June 2026

  • Priority:

We are aware of ongoing anti-social behaviour in Sherburn and Tadcaster town centres, which causes frustration and concern for local residents and businesses.

Your local policing team is committed to addressing these issues through targeted patrols, engagement with the community, and enforcement where necessary.

If you witness anti-social behaviour, please report it via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers. Working together, we can make Sherburn / Tadcaster a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team, alongside the Community Safety Team and partner agencies, continues to address concerns involving young people in Sherburn / Tadcasrer. We’ve carried out housing visits and issued Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts to help tackle the problems identified.

We are actively reviewing reported incidents and monitoring those involved. Further action will be taken if issues persist. Encouragingly, ASB calls in the area are starting to reduce, and we’re confident that continued partnership work will help resolve these concerns.

Thank you to residents for reporting issues. Your information helps us take effective action and keep Sherburn / Tadcaster a safe place for everyone.
