Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Drug-Related Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in Springfield Ward
Drug-related anti-social behaviour continues to have a detrimental impact on residents and businesses within Springfield Ward. Concerns include the use and supply of controlled drugs, groups congregating and causing nuisance, intimidation of residents, street drinking, and associated criminality. A proactive policing approach, supported by partner agencies, will be used to deter offending, identify those responsible, and improve community confidence.

    Issued 23 July 2026

    Action taken:

Conduct high-visibility and plain clothes patrols across Springfield Ward to deter drug-related ASB, gather intelligence, and identify offenders. Carry out intelligence-led stop and search activity where lawful grounds exist, engage with residents and partners, conduct targeted patrols in hotspot locations, utilise Section 35 dispersal powers, and undertake joint patrols with Hackney Council Enforcement Officers.

Use appropriate ASB interventions, including Anti-Social Behaviour Warnings, Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs), Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs), and Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs). Develop intelligence and investigations to identify offenders and take positive enforcement action, including arrest where offences are identified and evidential thresholds are met.

    Actioned 23 October 2026

  • Priority:

Road safety concerns within Springfield Ward include speeding, seatbelt non-compliance, and the unlawful use of electric pedal bikes. These behaviours increase the risk of collisions, injury, and public concern. A combination of targeted enforcement, visible patrols, and community engagement will be used to improve compliance, reduce offending, and make the ward's roads safer for all users.

    Issued 23 July 2026

    Action taken:

Conduct targeted patrols in identified hotspot locations to address speeding, seatbelt offences, and the illegal use of electric pedal bikes and scooters. Gather and develop intelligence on offence locations, peak times, and repeat offenders to support effective deployment. Engage with road users to promote safe and lawful behaviour, while taking positive enforcement action through warnings, Traffic Offence Reports, vehicle seizures where appropriate, and prosecutions to reduce road safety offences and improve compliance across the ward.

    Actioned 23 October 2026

  • Priority:

Shoplifting and retail crime continue to have a significant impact on businesses across Springfield Ward, particularly Boots, which has experienced substantial stock losses due to theft. These offences negatively affect staff, customers, and the wider community, contributing to increased fear of crime and financial losses for local businesses. Repeat offenders are often linked to wider acquisitive crime, anti-social behaviour, and other forms of criminality, making proactive enforcement and partnership working essential to reducing offending and improving community confidence.
Targeted policing activity will focus on identifying prolific offenders, supporting victims of crime, preventing repeat offences, and protecting the local retail economy.

    Issued 23 July 2026

    Action taken:

Conduct high-visibility and plain clothes patrols in retail areas across Springfield Ward, including targeted local operations in support of all shops, particularly Boots, which has experienced significant stock losses due to theft. Engage with retailers to gather intelligence, identify repeat offenders with the help of new technology, and support crime prevention measures.

Undertake intelligence-led patrols and targeted enforcement activity in retail hotspot locations, utilising stop and search powers where lawful grounds exist. Work closely with businesses and partner agencies to share information, identify prolific offenders, and develop evidence. Pursue proactive arrests and prosecutions of offenders to disrupt criminality, reduce shoplifting, and improve confidence among retailers, staff, and customers.
