About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Reports have been received from members of the community, including retail outlets, regarding youth-related anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the town centre. Incidents reported include youths climbing onto rooftops, entering shops in a disorderly manner, verbally abusing staff, and causing general nuisance and disruption.

    Officers and partner agencies are taking the following action:

    High-visibility hotspot patrols are in place in identified areas to deter ASB and provide reassurance.
    The Safer Streets Team are supporting patrols and assisting in identifying those responsible.
    The BID SMART radio scheme has been expanded and is being actively used to improve communication with local businesses.
    Regular partnership meetings are being held with BID and council partners to coordinate activity.
    The DISC reporting system is in use to gather evidence and support enforcement, including injunctions and banning orders where appropriate.
    IMPACT youth workers are engaging with young people in the town centre to prevent further offending.
    Operation Pedalfast will be conducted to provide additional targeted patrols and enforcement.

    The community has raised concerns regarding suspected drug dealing on the Melton Town Beat. Reports indicate that drug activity at certain residential addresses is attracting individuals involved in criminality, negatively impacting the local environment and overall quality of life for residents.

    Action taken:

    Officers and partner agencies are taking the following action:

    Closure Orders and Partial Closure Orders have been executed at identified addresses, with further action planned for additional locations.
    High-visibility patrols have been increased in affected areas to ensure compliance and provide reassurance.
    Intelligence gathering is ongoing, with information received daily regarding new addresses and individuals suspected of involvement. Patrols are directed accordingly.
    Plain clothes officers are deployed to gather intelligence and support enforcement activity.
    Section 8 Misuse of Drugs Act warnings are being issued to individuals suspected of using or supplying drugs from identified addresses.
    Partnership working continues with the local authority to support long-term problem solving and enforcement.

    Retail theft has been identified as a priority for the Melton Town Beat due to the high number of retail premises. Reports indicate that a number of known prolific offenders are targeting multiple stores, often committing several thefts within a single day. This ongoing activity is having a significant impact on staff, leaving them feeling vulnerable and frustrated.

    Officers and partner agencies are taking the following action:

    Partnership working is ongoing with the local authority, CCTV operators, and local businesses to coordinate a joined-up response.
    The BID SMART radio system is being actively used to improve communication and share information in real time.
    The DISC reporting system is in place to ensure incidents are recorded and evidence is collated, supporting applications for injunctions and banning orders.
    Increased high-visibility patrols are being conducted within the town centre to deter offending and provide reassurance to staff and businesses.
    Businesses are being encouraged to report all incidents of theft to ensure accurate recording and to support enforcement action.
    The Safer Streets Team have been actively gathering evidence against prolific offenders to support criminal proceedings.
    Positive enforcement outcomes have been achieved, including one prolific offender receiving a custodial sentence of 36 weeks.
