About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Community including retail outlets have raised issues with youth ASB including climbing onto roof tops, running into shops and verbally abusing staff and being a nuisance.

    Hot spot patrols are in place for this across the areas of concern.
    SMART radio has been expanded through the BID.
    Regular meetings are being held with BID partners and the DISC reporting system is in place with the council, who are working closely with police in relation to injunctions and banning orders.

  • Priority:

    Drug dealing in local addresses bringing an undesirable element into the immediate area. This has the knock on effect of bringing the overall feel of the area down.

    Action taken:

    Closure and partial closure orders were executed at numerous addresses and there are future plans in place regarding other areas of concern.
    Patrols have been increased in the areas of the closures to ensure compliance. Intel is coming in daily regarding new addresses and also persons which officers are increasing the proactive patrols around certain areas.

  • Priority:

    Retail theft is a high priority for the town beat given the number of retail outlets. Several well known suspects shoplift from numerous shops on sprees targeting a variety of items often within a single day. This leaves staff feeling both vulnerable and frustrated.

    Action taken:

    Town beat team are working closely with the council, CCTV and the businesses via the SMART radio system.
    DISC reporting is running for reports through to the council, who are then working closely with the local beat team in relation to injunctions and banning orders. More planned patrolling between Police and Security teams with the town centre Shops encouraged to report every theft which has in the past been just disregarded as not worth reporting. Town beat team are working closely with the council, CCTV and the businesses via the SMART radio system
