Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Burglaries –You said that you were concerned about your homes and businesses being subjected to burglary now that the darker nights and morning have arrived.

    Issued 01 October 2026

    Action taken:

With the darker evenings and longer night time hours now here, our homes and businesses become more vulnerable to crime. The team will be focussing on crime prevention through the Darker Nights campaign as well as focussing on those who cause us most harm.

    Actioned 01 October 2026

  • Priority:

Safer Streets – You said you wanted to feel safe when visiting our city during the night time particularly around celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas.

    Issued 01 October 2026

    Action taken:

With a number of events taking place including Freshers, Halloween and Christmas, the footfall into the Cultural Quarter during the night time will increase as people celebrate with one another. The team will be focussing on providing high visibility patrols around our busy night time areas as well as engaging with partner agencies to provide a safe environment.

    Actioned 01 October 2026

  • Priority:

Retail crime – You said that shoplifting was becoming an increasing concern and having a major impact on your businesses.

    Issued 01 October 2026

    Action taken:

Over the last couple of months a number of our retailers have seen a significant number of shop thefts from their premises which is causing a large amount of financial harm as well as leading to others offences when staff intervene. The team will be supporting these retailers and focussing on bringing those responsible to justice as well as further preventative work.
