About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Action taken:

    Officers from the town centre team continue to carry out patrols to prevent theft and respond to concerns raised by the community. Their work has resulted in 11 arrests and 26 theft offences being resolved through a range of outcomes, including charges, cautions, remands and Community Resolutions. A Community Resolution is a way of dealing with offences outside of court, where appropriate, allowing offenders to take responsibility for their actions and make amends.

    Officers have also carried out stop and searches where they have lawful grounds to suspect someone may be involved in criminal activity. These activities help deter offending, identify suspects and improve safety in the town centre.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to tackle drug use in the town centre through targeted patrols and proactive enforcement activity. This has included stop and searches where there are lawful grounds to suspect someone is in possession of illegal drugs. As a result of this work, a number of offences involving cannabis and cocaine have been dealt with through a range of outcomes, including charges, cautions, remands and Community Resolutions. A Community Resolution is a way of dealing with offences outside of court, where appropriate, allowing offenders to take responsibility for their actions and make amends. Officers will continue to take action against drug-related activity to help reduce harm and improve safety in the town centre.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to tackle graffiti and other forms of criminal damage in the town centre. Working with partner agencies and local communities, officers have identified and dealt with 9 suspects in connection with these offences. Outcomes have included referrals to the Youth Justice Team, which works with young people to help prevent further offending, and Community Resolutions. A Community Resolution is a way of dealing with offences outside of court, where appropriate, allowing offenders to take responsibility for their actions and make amends. Officers are encouraged that reports of criminal damage have remained low across the town centre, with only a small number of incidents reported in recent months.
