About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    Shoplifting.

    Action taken:

    Since the beginning of April, officers have made 15 arrests for theft in the town centre.

    Targeted operations have also taken place using plain clothes officers to help identify and deal with offenders.

    Illegal tobacco.

    Action taken:

    Officers have been working with Trading Standards to target shops selling illegal tobacco.

    During a recent visit, a large quantity of illegal items was seized, including cigarettes, tobacco, cash linked to crime and drug paraphernalia (items used to take drugs). Weapons were also recovered.

    Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices (formal actions used to stop antisocial behaviour) were issued to those involved, and further action is being taken where offences have been identified.

    Graffiti.

    Action taken:

    We are working with officers from nearby areas to tackle graffiti. A database has been created to track common "tags" (names or symbols used by graffiti offenders) and identify where they are active.

    This information is supporting enquiries, including checks on social media, to help identify a suspect linked to graffiti seen across the borough.
