About us

    Road safety.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to carry out road safety patrols and enforcement activity across the area. Speed checks are carried out whenever operationally possible to identify drivers who are breaking the law and to encourage safer driving. Vehicles found on the road without valid insurance, road tax or other legal requirements are dealt with appropriately, and drivers may be reported for relevant offences. Officers also use My Community Voice to share road safety advice and raise awareness of issues such as speeding and the illegal use of e-scooters and e-bikes. Residents are encouraged to get involved with Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led scheme that helps identify speeding concerns and improve road safety within local communities.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to take action against the illegal use of e-scooters and e-bikes across the Romney Marsh area. Information shared through My Community Voice helps raise awareness of the laws relating to these vehicles and encourages safe and responsible use. In Lydd, an e-scooter was recently seized after it was being ridden illegally and in a way that could have put the rider and others at risk. Officers remain committed to taking a robust approach to the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes and will continue to carry out patrols and enforcement activity where offences are identified. Officers are also investigating reports of a motorcycle being ridden dangerously without a registration plate, and enquiries are ongoing to identify the rider and take appropriate action.

    Action taken:

    Officers continue to maintain a visible presence across New Romney and the surrounding areas, helping to deter antisocial behaviour and provide reassurance to local residents. Regular patrols are carried out in towns and villages throughout the area, with officers responding to concerns raised by the community and taking action where necessary. Officers also work closely with partner organisations to identify and address environmental factors that may contribute to antisocial behaviour. For example, recent partnership work helped remove a location that was being used to conceal drug use and antisocial behaviour, resulting in an immediate improvement in the area. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting concerns, as this information helps officers and partners identify problems and develop effective long-term solutions.
