E-scooters/bikes.

Action taken:

Officers continue to take action against the illegal and antisocial use of e-scooters and e-bikes in Chatham. A dedicated operation by the Community Safety Unit targeted riders using these vehicles unlawfully, resulting in a number of e-scooters and e-bikes being stopped and seized. Riders were also issued with Traffic Offence Reports (TORs), which are a formal way of dealing with road traffic offences, and were provided with advice about the legal requirements for using e-scooters and e-bikes. Officers will continue to take proactive action when illegal use is identified during patrols, helping to improve road safety and reduce antisocial behaviour in the community.

Action taken:

Officers continue to carry out targeted patrols in Fort Pitt Ward to improve road safety and address traffic offences. Both marked and unmarked police vehicles are used to identify offences such as speeding, dangerous driving and other behaviour that puts road users at risk. Where offences are identified, officers take appropriate enforcement action and also provide advice and education to encourage safer driving. Officers regularly work with specialist roads policing teams to carry out proactive patrols, identify road safety issues and respond to concerns raised by residents. Through ongoing enforcement and community engagement, officers continue to work to make local roads safer for everyone.

Drug dealing.

Action taken:

Officers continue to tackle drug dealing through daily patrols in the area, using both uniformed and plain-clothes officers to identify and disrupt criminal activity. Where there are lawful grounds, officers carry out stop and searches to identify those involved in drug use and drug supply. A stop and search is a police power that allows officers to search a person for items such as illegal drugs, weapons or stolen property when certain legal conditions are met.

Information gathered during patrols and from the local community has helped officers develop intelligence about drug-related activity, leading to enforcement action at a number of addresses and the arrest of suspected drug dealers. Through ongoing patrols, intelligence gathering and enforcement activity, officers continue to disrupt drug dealing, take action against offenders and improve community safety.
