About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area.

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

Policing priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Shoplifting is one of the highest crimes recorded within Peterlee

    Issued 17 April 2025

    Action taken:

    To tackle this we:
-Carry out high visibility patrols within the Town Centre but also the smaller shops around the housing estates.
-We have monthly shop watch meetings with the shop managers/staff who are involved in the scheme
    - We also have a zero tolerance approach with most suspects of this crime
    - We also work with various partners to assist in the tackle against shoplifters such as our Colleagues in the Castle Dene Centre and Durham County Council in relation to improving CCTV, banning suspects from shops and the Town Centre and assisting in patrols and intelligence gathering

    Actioned 17 April 2025

  • Priority:

Youth Nuisance / ASB: Over recent weeks in the Town Centre we have had multiple calls around ASB mainly around the shops with youths causing problems

    Issued 17 April 2025

    Action taken:

To tackle this we have been:
    - Carrying out high visibility patrols along with colleagues from Durham County Council Neighbourhood Wardens Team and ASB Team
    - We have ASB meetings to discuss ASB suspects with our Durham County Council colleagues and housing provider teams.
    - Use of Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts (ABC's), Community Protection Warnings (CPW's) and Community Protection Notices on offenders of ASB
